As Jason Gorman said - it needed to be cheap enough that if kids break it, it isn't the end of the world!

I think I can envisage my kids building a lego case for this puppy

I follow the project for quite a while now and it's very interessting. I will buy several of them. Will use one to watch movies in my bedroom. Use one or more as servers, etc.

Yes, ARM is amazing if it comes to low power consumption devices, plus it's cheap.

Yes that's a bit of a price point difference! Most People will probably buy 2 or 3 Raspberry pi's at that price.
Maybe it'll give me the motivation to finish off the PB front end for llvm.

And if Fred or Freak get one, maybe it'll convince them to produce a linux ARM compiler version?

Hmmm... it's cheap enough that I'd donate a couple to them for that!

If you gave them a Raspberry pi, I'd sooner think they'd be playing with them from c/c+
rather than writing a Pb target for them.

Vapourware if ever i've seen it. It may look good on paper but when it come to manufacture it's a whole different ball game. See the OLPC project!

I dont see any relation between the two projects.
It's much more like the beagleboard, which is no vapourware at all. If he can keep the price that low is another question, but it should be possible.

I don't think it qualifies as Vapourware yet, they've only recently gone public.
They will undoubtedly need to get enough interest in the products before committing to manufacture
but considering Eben Upton is the Associate Technical Director of Broadcom, I don't think fabrication will be
an issue.

The relationship i was referring to was that on paper it all sounds great but when the OLPC was finally manufactured, costs skyrocketed. Instigating the 'buy one, give one' initiative. Demo'ing a pcb is great but shrinking it and making it cheap while putting it in a small container will have unforseen costs. It always happens. Don't get me wrong tho' if these to indeed see the light of day i'll be getting one!
