It's based on number of posts.
I believe it's
enthusiast = 100 posts
addict = 1000
no idea beyond there. PB expert is "awarded".

...I think you have to demonstrate a psychedelic trait of weirdness to become an addict. You may also be required to send-in proof-of-purchase for very large consignments of coffee.
