Or maybe that's a trick like the one people in Bavaria make use of:
Be nice face to face, and rip out hair of the other guy from behind.

Seriously though, the spammers should be deleted by username with the option selected to remove all their posts. Somehow when they clean the spam out of the forum they're leaving the usernames, which has no upside that I can see at all.

When it is done as you describe it also leaves the spam in the forum because the username and profile still may contain spam links and information.

May as well give them a present too with a captcha.
