Gadget without InitEngine3D()?

How I can draw string gadget without any 3D functions and calling to InitEngine3D? It is drawing in 2D.
Is it possible?

Are you talking about Gadgets on a Window, or Inside a Screen?

I am talking about gadgets inside a screen and openwindowedscreen. I need string gadget.

In this case I think you have to use the Gadget3D-Functions.

But - if I remember right - a few weeks ago I've seen a post, where someone announced his own Screen-Gadget-Library.
But, right now I was not able to find it again, sorry. :?
