I just downloaded the demo version of PureBasic to try it out. Even the simplest programs don't run in this version - just 3 lines long, for instance. It failed on both Windows XP and Win 98.

Is this normal for the demo? If so, it's almost pointless circulating it. Before forking out the full purchase cost, I would like to try the software. I'm particularly keen to see for myself that it really works with Windows XP, as so many other programs aren't compatible.

print (i$)

This produces zero output when run. When run/compile selected, error msg says
"Line 3: I is not valid operator." No output screen is produced. The system tells me there is a PureBasic error and shuts the program down.

None of the posted demos will run either. I am using Windows XP, a virgin installation on a new machine, with everything else running ok - even Quick Basic and Blitz Basic.

This is demo version 2.7. Any help appreciated, as this dialect looks very interesting.

Hi djellis

I saw your example and it cant work, because you have to say where you want to print your stuff... Window, Screen, Console etc... Here is just a small example how your program must look like... Hope this will help you a bit... Anyway have a look to all the included examples in PureBasic... Good luck :wink:

Code: Select all

OpenConsole() ; Print to Consosle Window!
    ;
    For i = 1 To 10
;       i$ = Str(i)        ; You dont need this line, use Str(val)
        PrintN (Str(i))    ; PrintNextLine...
    Next i
    ;
    Delay (3000) ; Wait, before closing ConsoleWindow
CloseConsole()
;
End
PIII450, 256MB Ram, 6GB HD, RivaTNT, DirectX8.1, SB AWE64, Win98SE + Updates...

OK, guys, you made your point! I mistakenly thought pure basic meant copying
literally some of the old basics. I see the spirit of pure basic is preserved, but is applied to modern machines. I read up a few of the supplied example programs, and was able then quickly to get my own going.

Thanks for all the replies. This gives me a lot of confidence: if I register, I know there are lots of users out there ready to help.
