I haven't played a Mechwarrior as good as Mechwarrior 2. This one looks interesting and has a lot of eye candy but I reserve my opinion until there's a demo.

Nice. I used to love playing Mechwarrior2 with a force feedback joystick. There's just something about controlling a mech with a decent flightstick, it seems the most realistic somehow - maybe that's down to the lack of realism in traditional flight sims. MW would simply drag you in, you'd feel like you were in charge of this massive robot, and MW5 seems to push that to the next level.
Should be pretty cool when it's released.

I still keep my old Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro (torso twist!) and an old computer around just for MW2. That game never gets old!

The same was for me. What I liked more, especially in mw2 and mw3 was the need to plan ahead, to select the right mech with the right configuration, to maximize your combat effectiveness against the current enemy and in the current environment.
The choice of the right armor, the right weapons, the number of heatsinks, the installation of jump jets, all this before the actual battle.
And the right crew.
All this makes MW something different.
I liked a lot mechcommander 2 too.
MW4 was the weakest of them all, in my opinion.
Almost forgot. What I disliked in all the MWs was the pathfinding. The need to babysit your lancemate because is walking against a building instead of following you.
AI should be the top priority in any game like this, graphics should come later.

you picked the very right words mate! The Battletech-Universe and the MW-Servies for PC caught me too!
Man, I love those books from Michael Stackpole.

I still (on and off) keep in contact with our old crew of MW3 and MW4 guys. I actually played some MW4 earlier this year with them. It was pretty awesome to see that my "basic" laptop would play that game without issue. Something to be said for older graphics engines, games.
Excellent news!

I've only played the first Mechwarior and that was only because it came with a joystick I had just purchased.
I apparently wasn't impressed enough with it to buy the sequels.

An update TWO YEARS later
http://www.incgamers.com/News/29375/inn ... reboot-pic
The depicted mech seem to wear some kind of diapers ... and there is a promise to launch it this decade "launch in 201?"

Where do you get diapers from? lol....
I'm guessing it will be a 2012 launch, Christmas 2011 if we're lucky.

I don't remember a mech looking that way in the crotch department ...
Anyway, they have launched that "Chirper" account a month ago or so, and then started composing the picture containing the release date one piece at a time, so we should be near. I guess.
We'll see.

Damn. I saw.

*SINGLE PLAYER* ... not found error.
I just wanted another Mechwarrior game, with a nice story and a single player campaign.
Anyway HERE ->
http://mwomercs.com/news/2011/10/2-dev-blog-0
they are talking about the project's history... and you can read about the initial design goals:
"It would be designed for the Xbox 360 and PC. The game would take place on the planet Deshler, in the year 3015. Single player would revolve around Adrian Kohl and his exploits during an invasion by Kuritan forces. A gritty series of missions, designed to draw people deep into the rich vibrant and treacherous world of BattleTech"
HOWEVER I wasn't able to find a confirmation of this later. Everywhere they are mentioning multiplayer only. Even in the FAQ not a mention of single player.

I did like Mech Warrior 2 / Mercs a whole lot.
Especially the fact they were software rendered. There was just something about the way motion was done in the rendering engine, that made it absolutely perfect. You had these great slow, back and forth swaying motions, and it was a very smooth movement.
Not like junk games which came later that were all bump bump bump.
