I admit, I'm not young as most of the members here... but is that a reason to forget about the coding langauges you learned before?

not to mention asm for Motorola 6800... I started with HTML and Perl... Then it cames PHP... then it cames Visual Basic 6... Then it cames Purebasic (still learning)...

The thing is:
When I started in PHP, a couple of mounths later, I couln't remember a thing about Perl

Whem I started with VB6, and did not do much web probramming, almost (did) forget about how to code in PHP

Now I'm in love with PB, and can't remember much VB6, PHP, and... HTML. Still does not now much about PB, but I'm getting there.

Is this happenning with you guys too???

I think it's quite normal to get "rusty" in languages you don't use.
that's what the gods created reference manuals for...

if I was asked to write something in C right now... or image 6502-ASM...
no way without browsing the reference like a mad dog...

Personally I don't suffer that problem at all but then I can't remember what I did 30 seconds ago without looking twice!

Use it or loose it is probably relevant.

I get quite rusty after some time without using a specific language.

I usually go between php / mysql / javascript / html and purebasic, and sometimes when going between one and the other i forget some stuff and i'm only 31 eheheh

Maybe it all depends on how long you used a previous language. For example,
I started coding on the Vic-20 and C-64 when I was 10, and can still remember
how to code them to this very day. (I'm 39 this year).

I only used Visual Basic 5 for a few years (about 5) and have started to forget
it. But, with the C-64, it was more passionate than VB ever was. I used to code
everything from magazines like Compute!'s Gazette and so on, so everything
got ingrained really hard as a result. Never got that feeling with Visual Basic.
Back then, computers were new and exciting. Now it's all run-of-the-mill and
there's no real excitement. It makes me sad watching my 2-year-old clicking
the mouse and playing games on my XP machine, because he'll never grow
up with pressing play on tape and waiting 30 minutes for a game to load.
Sounds silly to wish he could experience that, but I really wish he could.
I'll definitely teach him to code BASIC on a C-64 emulator before buying
him a PureBasic license later. Plus he'll play all those old C-64 classic
games like Last Ninja and Archon to see what REAL gameplay is.

Age is the great equalizer, i'm 54 (55 in a couple of months) and I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday much less details for something that I might have learned 30 + years ago.

Don't feel bad, its a natural part of aging. All of the younger people here will get that way too one day. Its going to happen.

I know, what you´re talking about.

I learned Purebasic when I was just 15 (damn, that´s 7 years ago ) and kept on working with it for about 6 Years. PureBasic, InlineASM, some HTML for my crappage (webpage isn´t the right word for this) and that was it.

Ahhm, but than I started 2 things:
1) A project that uses PB but also uses the Internet intensively, so I had to learn some more Network/Web-Stuff
2.)I started to study mechanical engineering and computer science which means I have to learn some Languages.

So as I have to pass 2 exams about programming in a month and still can´t stop working on my project, for now I am switching all day between

PureBasic
InlineASM
HTML (Not a Programming Language, but it has a Syntax either)
CSS (Not a Programming Language, but it has a Syntax either)
Java Script
PHP
MySQL
Delphi
Python
POVRAY (just starting out, don´t ask me anything:oops:)

Now, that´s a Hell of a chaos, isn´t it?

Regarding to Delphi and PHP I can tell you, I´m happy, ";" just means "comment" in PureBasic. I would be in a hell of syntax errors if not.
