I decided to make an RPG in the DOS terminal for windows and i ran into a bit of trouble. To move around my plan is to make it like the old old 80's RPGs similar to D&D for example if the player wants to got north he/she would type "north" and the same for east south west. now my problem is how can i do it?

if it's local then look at the console commands section
http://www.purebasic.com/documentation/ ... index.html
if it's network then it depends what you want as a desgin. Telnet, SSH, plain TCP text etc. People can decide their own clients etc

Didn't someone develop a game engine for this? Maybe not in PB, but it exists!!! They released it, it was used to create ZORKII and ZORK III...

it is simplest parsing, shown in thousands of adventure tutorials since the 80ies...
I really don't understand the problem here.
If you are able to create a minimal map, you should be able to implement minimal movement.
then, if you perform your go-north-action as a reaction to pressing [CSRS-UP],
or as a reaction the the input of "north", is a really tiny difference.
