Hi,

How many people/biz out there that want to skip windows vista
and are waiting for windows-7 ? We'll guess what, it just
gurgled up in smoke. MicroSoft decided NOT to give windows-7
a new kernel as planned but is going to base it on the same
kernel as windows vista. You can read it all here :

XP Pro will outlast Vista which always sounded like a good name for a feminine hygene product anyway!

And I am unanimous in that!

I'm really favoring Linux now. I love Fedora 9 on my notebook.

One advantage to that is with no new kernel, maybe by the time Windows 7 is released most of the bugs will be worked out of the current kernel.

A new kernel would just mean new bugs to go with the old bugs.

Actually, this doesn't bother me so much. It's not the core of vista that keeps me from using it, it's all the bullshit, bells and whistles (app layer) stuff on top of it that pisses me off.

(Its why I wonder why people get that vista look and feel pack for XP, all the things I hate about vista in one package for XP without any of the features!)

Currently the thing that stops me from using it is the changes they've made to the management of sound devices and some apps that will need upgrading. Sound card manufactuerers are working around the vista issues on one side and as time passes more apps will be fine on vista.

Then I just need to get used to it, which I can't be bothered doing now as the sound issues would drive me nuts.

But then, if windows 7 is going to be EVEN MORE bells and whistles on the same vista core, then I guess vista might start looking pretty good at that point

I just upgraded to XP SP3 so I have the latest and greatest already, it's newer than vista SP1! won't need an OS upgrade for atleast a year now

Is one of the goals with Windows 7 that there will be more things right out of the box to get people interested in this release?
Sinofsky: Again I don't want to talk about any more specifics today, because we're focused today on how we're going to communicate things. But really again to really make sure I'm clear, we're working on a major release, and I think that each customer segment will have its own way of understanding what it means for them to be a significant release. And some of the things that we're going to do are going to make the release more applicable to a broader set of people, but it also might mean, oh, well, if you're not re-architecting the whole thing, then maybe it's not a major release. But we're actually going to bring forward the compatibility, and we're going to make sure that there's a lot of value for everybody who's a customer of Windows 7.

Are there any sorts of things that are happening in the overall PC world that are influencing how you guys are designing the operating system? I would imagine one of the things that certainly would influence it would be the sort of extensions to Vista, the Windows Live services. How important are online service extensions to the operating system going forward?
Sinofsky: The great thing about the Windows and PC ecosystem is that there's no shortage of activity in every dimension. Right now, today, we're really focused on just making sure everybody understands how we're going to talk about all of the things that we're going to do in this next release of Windows, but what we really want to do is kind of stay focused on that, and let us do a good job making sure that the things we are working on are really going to be great for each of the different kinds of customers of the product.

This is because he is a "suit" with an MBA and has no idea how a computer works OR how to program one. It is quite possible that, until 30 mins before this interview, he thought that kernels referred to corn or possibly Sanders! (many of you will have to work a bit for that last reference!)

that quote was hilarious! he thinks he wants to say something he already said about something they all ("we") said before...what the??? :roll:

and this guy is leading the Windows 7 team??? Apple now has a lot of quotes they can use in future commercials...

What he wanted to say was to contradict Bill which I guess is a no-no so he was stuck
