This is just a suggestion.
I was using the searchengines (google) and found that PureBasic is not ranked on the most common and popular keywords. If we search for "Basic Compiler" or something like that... PureBasic dosent appear !!
Also i check the keywords on the web site and i thing the are some small errors (if the idea is to drive people to the site).

As a regular user of PureBasic, i want it to grow... then i suggest that everyone of us can share our knowledge to get more people around here that will became in more registered users and then will let PB continue growing.

My suggestions:

In the index page of the site (the one that is displayed when someone enter to http://www.purebasic.com) the tex are so poor in keywords. Many search engines read and cataloge any site based on the index page.
When someone is looking for a Basic compiler i think that types some words that cant be founded on the PB index page !!

Another thing is the keywords section:

I dont want to be rude, but the name of Fred or his nick should not be there (if he is looking for traffic), the LANG="fr" part are terrible for Google (i think Fred dont want only french users) and the most common keywords related to a compiler are missing.

So, if a word isnt on the page and not in the keyword section... users wont find it using search engines.

Thats why i learn with my own websites (now im getting more than 5,000 users per day) are others agree?

Of course im not trying to push Fred to do nothing, its just a suggestion...

Acording to http://www.wordtracker.com (using the free trial) the most common keywords typed by the users on searchengines when searching for basic compiler and/or basic are:

related to basic compiler:

basic compiler, visual basic compiler, free visual basic compilers, free visual basic compiler, pic basic compiler

related to basic:

visual basic,visual basic code,visual basic tutorial,visual basic help,visual basic download,visual basic 6.0

related to compiler:

c compiler,free c compiler,c++ compiler,java compiler,compilers,compiler,qbasic compiler

related to programming:
programming,computer programming,c programming,java programming,logo programming,game programming,programming languages

In my experience, the webmaster most add all this keywords (and some combinatios/variations) in the keyword tag and choose the most important ones (the vb ones) and add it t least once in the text of the main page (the main page for the searchengines is the page that is displayed first when user enter the site).

If some of this keywords could be displayed inside head tags (,) and in bold and have some image with the name and alt tag using this keywords and have some links with this keywords as text, the results will be very good.

Again, im not telling nobody to do this, just sharing my experience : )

Ok, I've done the keyword changes.. About putting keywords on the main page (the news), it's a bit hard.. If you have a great idea, it's welcome

Did you think that the news page must be the main page? Maybe its not to attractive if somebody gets there searching some terms in google... in the other hand, often if a keyword on the tag isnt on the page the site could be penalized by some engines getting lower rankings.
This was implemented since a lot of people add popular keywords just to catch traffic, then if you was searching napster you could be driven to a XXX website !!!
Now most engines (Google did it) check if the keywords match with the content of the site or the page.

You site is nice but maybe very direct and with not much words or descriptions. Im not saying that you must write a newspaper ha ha but check http://www.powerbasic.com, its a mess but drives tons of traffic (and tons of registered users!), they use a lot of keywords on their pages.

If someone search for visual basic and your site only mention it once... you will be on the ranking #9999, but if you add larger descriptions, examples, etc and then you mention visual basic 20 times (just saying something) maybe you will jump to the ranking 20 or 10.

I think that PureBasic is great, just some marketing and will grow consistently.

MNS and Google drives BIG traffic when some site get in the first ranks of some keywords.
