ReportComplete!

I mentioned it in another thread (thanks for those who help test it), but now it's officially being announced as it's virtually out of beta (just a few days left) and being currently used by hundreds of teachers. :)

The screenshot shows how fast trees can be changed in PB ;) and how versatile the Scintilla gadget is, its the main component of the editor and with a few "tricks" is able to track the key words in the reports.

The Elementary Reports website is at: http://ElementaryReports.com

Here is an article on the program at Primary Teacher UK:

DoubleDutch,

I mentioned this to my wife who has a few friends who are teachers, and this is exactly what they are looking for. Maybe you will hear from them soon.

Just altered the editor (due to feedback) - it works more like reportBuilder did now (you edit all subjects for a student in one go) and I think it works much better. The single subject edit mode is still in - you can swap between them with F6 or by clicking an icon.

Because of this I've had to recode the undo/redo system, so I decided to give it a bit of an upgrade over other undo/redo systems. 8)

It tracks changes per student per subject! It may not sound like much, but it's pretty complicated and very handy - see the help:

:D

You forgot to change your signature and the gif on your reportcomplete.com page also has the old name...maybe a bit misleading. ;)

Offtopic:
Which program did you use for the screen capture/gif creation? It looks pretty good!

Thanks - I'll change the sig now, it's still early days with the new name. Lots to update before next year...

A friend did the gif capture a while back - I'll ask him what he used over the weekend.

Hi DoubleDutch, looks fabulous, I'm sure ReportComplete should be the defacto app for all schools.

The link to the teachers website is too old (2008) - maybe you could send them a new Pres Release?

Thanks. :D

I think these are the links you mean:
Elementary Report review:
http://www.teachingnews.co.uk/2008/04/e ... /#more-281

ReportBuilder (what ER replaced):
http://www.teachingnews.co.uk/2006/04/w ... t-builder/
and
http://www.teachingnews.co.uk/2006/06/r ... ally-done/
I'm sure ReportComplete should be the defacto app for all schools
Hopefully... Either it or ReportPlus (a licenced copy) is in about 1,000 UK schools at present. :)

One of the new improvements over Elementary Reports is that it can be installed as a Portable app (via our install program) - see http://PortableApps.com for more info about portableapps.
(because we have our own installer, you don't have to have portableapps on your memory stick for it to work!).

....with a 3rd name change, you are beginning to compete with Microsoft!

I really like your special copy and paste feature, that tells me you have really thought-out the design and made the chore of writing reports as efficient as possible. Great stuff.

From Teaching News:
One of the great features I like is the smart cut and paste. Cut a comment from one child’s report and paste it into another and the name changes plus the pronouns subject name, class, etc. This makes cutting and pasting comments easy without that awful nagging doubt that you forgot to change ‘Richard’ into ‘Sarah’ or a ‘he’ into a ‘she’!

Elementary Reports was going to be a US version of ReportBuilder (A program I wrote that was sold and supported by ApplePanic Ltd, I was paid a royalty for the program, they supplied teh statements). ApplePanic ceased to exist and I didn't think it was fair to leave a lot of teachers without any program, so I quickly patched Elementary Reports to also work with the UK system again, create a fresh statement bank and let them have a free licence if they already had ReportBuilder - some schools contributed more original statements as a 'thankyou'. When making Elementary Reports 'compatible' with the UK system I also extended a lot of the internals to make it easy to code a version for any type of school (secondary, etc) - but it was too late for a name change. Now a year or two has passed, the schools don't seem to mind another change - I've put in a system that will import from one to the other. There is another (!!) version of the program (from the same source code) that is called ReportPlus, it is sold under licence by ReportPlus Limited and shares the same feature set, but has different icons, default values and user licence model - they go by class size vs. my number of teachers. The additions requested by ReportPlus over the last year or so is what has brought about such a dramatic increase in the number of features the program now has.
I really like your special copy and paste feature,
The 'PasteAI' system keeps 'track' the original (source) pronouns in the document - this way it can't make mistakes like a normal search/replace pronoun changer - in other programs they will mess up if you convert from one to the other because not all male/female pronouns are interchangeable.

eg:

The blah blah belonged to him --> The blah blah belonged to her --> The blah blah belonged to his

The above example shows how a simple pronoun search/replace goes wrong.

he --> she
his --> hers and her (it was his, it was hers --- his father said.. her father said)
him --> her
etc...

IdeasVacuum: Are you a teacher btw?

oh no, I'm not a teacher - those that can, do...............

My daughter is a teacher. I taught a few people how to use CAD applications when they became important in engineering, simply because you couldn't find a designer with CAD experience back then.

I just curious as to why you liked the program. :)

...That's easy - I appreciate well-designed things, whatever they may be.

Wow!!!

For two reasons:

First, I didn't know you could have animated objects in posts?!?!? (Is that an FLV?)

Second, as has already been mentioned, I have no interest in education but to see things well done....

Well, actually, my brother-in-law is a "teacher's teacher" - he works with teachers (I still don't quite understand what he does  ). And my wife tutors adults in computer basics, so I should check what sort of reporting she has to do on each of her students.

Very nicely done, DoubleDutch, but what age is "Elementary School" level?

Edit: Ah, "Elementary School" level = Primary School (aged 5 - 9?)

P.S. Can this just be used in the U.K.? What would need adapting for New Zealand, for instance?

Edit2: Ahhh, it's an animated GIF, very cool!
