Gas Prices RANT!!!!

I freaking HATE the oil companes!!!

"We only make an average amount of profit for out product."

What they don't tell you.

1 gallon of gasoline uses roughly 1TBSP of oil, cost per gallon of gas at $100.00 a barrel at 50 gallons a barrel = 256TBSP in 1 gallon = 50 * 256 = 12800 tbsp per barrell

1 gallon of gas oil cost = 0.0078125 CENTS!!!!!!!!!

The official line is: We make about $0.48 cents a gallon profit.

1 gallon of diesel uses about 215ml of oil

The additive chemicals they have to put into the product that make it cleaner they buy from their OWN chemical companies (sold to themselves AT A LOSS for a tax write off!!!)

They transport it with their OWN trucks from THEIR trucking companies and have the nerve to write off the FUEL costs.

My friend who works in intl accounting at BP (aka: How to HIDE PROFITS)says that BP policy is "As long as OIL is over 40.00 a barrell they make mad profit!"

The USA announced that oil companies wuld be paying MORE in taxes... and Oil companies RAISED PRICES...

To pay for the new taxes.

If we regulate prices THEY create shortage.

I say we round up the chief executives and drop them naked and screaming into iraq... parachutes optional!!!

Gas prices will hit $4.00 a gallon by JUNE

It was the oil companies that bought all the streetcar lines and closed them down.

KILL KILL KILL!!!!!

Ah I see. The dreaded neither peace nor oil situation. $4.00 a gallon is less than half the price here anyways.

Today the dollar was in the news here, historically low, over the 1.5 $ border for one euro.

A liter of gas costs here 1.5 euro

thats 2.25 dollar for one liter

wikipedia says: U.S. liquid gallon is legally defined as 231 cubic inches, and is equal to 3.785411784 litres

So we pay $ 8.505 per gallon here......

hurray, i wanna buy a hummer

4.00$ = 2.64€
1 gallon = 3.8 liter

-> 0,69 €/liter

lol, you call that expensive? (1,41€/liter here)

So don't cry until your prices go over 8$ ;)

[Edit] Berikco was faster..

I miss one point in the poll:
I don't give a &/§$$% what US Gas companies do within your country...

If they would keep their fingers out of south america and the middle east I would be happy...

and yes, I agree to my foreposters... US citizents don't pay enough for gas.

imagine what the US could do if citizents pay twice for gas and the government would spent half for the military....

If our nation wasn't many many many times larger than yours I wouldn't. Public transportation isn't an option most places in the USA. As it is.. we have much higher demand, and lower taxes on gas. Don't cry to me about having lower gas prices until your government stops taxing the hell out of them ;)

that's the way we like it...
first stealing the land from the redindians, now complaining it's too big...

and just think...
also because gas is that low taxed in US, you need to suppress other countries to get enough oil...

I just say:
as long only one single bullet is fired for oil outside the US,
I s*** on your complaints about your gas prices.

Bt Houston is the 4th largest city in the USA. And the largest city in the world without a cheap and reliable form of public transportation.

When I lived in Mexico, I had my 1991 Suburban 4X4 with the 45 gallon gas tank, a 352 HP Chevy Black Tie 350 and the H4 hydraulic Transmission. 12MPG

I paid about US$ 8.50 per gallon.

But I barely used the car, I could walk or take a taxi cheap or take the subway.

Mexico City was cool because of the taxi and the subway... I could get around for much less than the gas cost.

Mazatlan was cool as I could walk almost anywhere or take a taxi for much less than the gas cost. I barely drove... filled up about 1 time in 4 months.

Before you have no sympathy, remember that the il companies did this to us. They bought up all the streetcards (except NY, New Orleans, Chicago, and San Francisco) and CLOSED THEM so people would HAVE to drive.

Before you throw pity out the window, do you own a car? How do you get to college or work? What is the cost to you for that trip?

I have driven in Europe. I didn't notice any fools on the road concerned abut gas... in Italy it seemed the speeding laws were suspended. In Germany off the autobahn, people were (I swear) driving pedal cars (cars you pedal like a bicycle) and ON the autobahn... Apparently the slow lane really does not exist.

{My 190e loved it though... That car was born to run!)

Down here in the South we have no train network like up in Yankeeland... We can't live in Huntsville and commute every day for cheap on Amtrak to Houston like people living in Connecticut can do if they work in New York City.

In Saudi Arabia gas has gone up to $0.44 US$ a gallon. You tell me who you should be smug at!

As far as Euro gas prices... You can blame the local oil companies as well... I believe BP is British Petroleum... They have a fantastic profit margin in Eu.

If we have to pay more... what do you think YOUR prices are going to be set like.
{{{ EDIT BECAUSE OF POPULAR FALLACY }}}
first stealing the land from the redindians, now complaining it's too big...
Point of order Mr. Chairman...
The native Americans had NO CONCEPT of private ownership. They didn't OWN the land. They really never settled ANYWHERE on the land. They were Hunter Gatherers...

Some of them got greedy and agreed to sell land to the newcomers. It does not matter at what rate. To them, the price was a fantastic richness, a wealth beyond dreams.

It does not matter that they made a bad deal. They made a deal.

Later, they decided they wanted more for the land. We had a war. They lost. We conquered the territory.

It is ours.

Unless you agree that you shuold hand back portions of France to the Gauls, and large chunks of GB to the Britons and Woads... And Ireland should go back to no one because that was who was originally there. In fact, if you believe the junk about human Creationism or Religious Darwinism... It doesn't matter. You would ALL have to leave where you are and head back to the cradle of civilisation.

Nope... no argument... non-sequiter... All logic about who owns the land can be traced back to NO ONE OWN THE LAND, unless they can keep it! 8)

I don't own a car

Gasoline and tobacco taxes are fine by me. Although crude oil prices/taxes tend to put up the prices of all sorts of things.

It'll help people support better energy sources

Iroquois Confederacy
Formed after the arrival of the Europeans in the ne world and way after Leiff Ericcson arrived.

And I repeat... they LOST the American Indian War.

:D

But Kaeru, I like you so we can agree to disagree. 8)

However what do you guys pay a month for electricity? The average bill in the South USA (Texas, south Texas even) is about $150.00 a month. That is average... in June, july, august, and September (and sometimes October) when the heat is 36-38c and we have to run our AC or melt... it can approach $300.00 because of the high usage rate hikes in the summer term.

If you keep it around 72f that can rise to over $400.00 a month.

When I lived in Mexico. South of the Tropic of Cancer. I paid $39.00 US$ about $410.00 pesos then, for Electricity in July.

It isn't equal. I think you pay much less in energy costs. I have a feeling that everybody pays less in energy costs than we do.
 Even inside the USA, Texas pays the most for electricity.

Rook, you've just struck a nerve  Why is it that people from Texas are so prone to hyperbole? Every person I've ever met from Texas has some ill-informed notion that everything truly is bigger there. Take a look at this link and you'll see that Texas is just a nudge above the national average in terms of consumer electrical costs, and well below the national high. Those are the latest numbers from US Energy Information Administration. Sometimes Texas isn't the <whatever>-EST!

On gas prices - those of you who have pointed out that we only pay 1/2 the price you pay in your country might have a point, but please take note -- because of our very different economic bases your point may not be quite as strong as you make it seem. Has your cost to fill a tank gone up by nearly 100% in the last 5 years? If so, how much of that was actually from tax increases?

We pay $2.10 per litre and around 85% of that is tax. I know where my anger is directed and it's not the oil companies.

I see the U.S. government has decided to change position and are now going to help perpetuate the 'climate change' myth which means they've spotted what a great cash cow such baloney can be and you'll see your taxes rocket.
pdwyer wrote:Gasoline and tobacco taxes are fine by me.
I agree with tobacco taxes, in fact legalise everything addictive and tax it to the hilt - make the junkies pay. Then when they need to go to hospital refuse them treatment because their illness is self-inflicted.

And while I'm having a rant why not make peoples percentage of body fat their tax rate? That would solve the obesity crisis.

this is a joke right?
1$ per litre? Thats nothing
I think in the usa they should put it to 2$ a litre, a bit more like europe. Then you wouldn't destroy the rest of the world with your CO2

perhaps the state should take some of the money by adding special things to gas so the oil companies has to set the price down, hence earn less money, the user will have to pay so he don't drive that much, and the government can spend the money on bbq's and red wine and perhaps some global warming issues

The increase in CO2 is due to global warming not the other way around - but you can't use that to justify exorbitant taxes which is why scientists who say it lose their government research funding.

Any of us who were alive in the seventies remember that we had had three decades of global cooling and at that time the 'experts' were warning of a new ice-age.

It's all complete bollocks.

If you want to argue car usage should be restricted because of respiratory problems in children fair enough but forget all that climate change baloney, it's an absolute red herring.
