Bloated Forum

I'm just glad PureBasic isn't getting as bloated as this forum is. I usually don't complain much. But one thing I don't like is a forum with 20+ forums inside it. I guess it's not too bad now. :?

not quite sure what you mean... Did the new forums added make something better or worse in your opinion?

I would say worse but it isn't too bad yet. I just don't like going to forums where there's too many forum topics to choose from.

But, I'm a "let's get to the point" kind of person.

Isn't it easier to get to the point when things are organised?

Imagine a forum with just one thread. Especially when some of the subject lines are as meaningful as "help" or "wtf" or "why?". :D

I must admit, I'm a little confused by the two announcement sections.

imho, one section should possibly be used for announcing things that have a direct impact on PureBasic - for example libraries, etc and the other section should be used for things that are just coded in PureBasic, but have no real impact on other programmers, eg: Elementary Reports (shameless plug!)...

Or have I read it all wrong, and thats the way things are organised?

Edit: It has been explained to me with a good example by Berikco, here:
http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... 453#234453

I was up late last night (tidying up after things falling off shelves), still a bit tired - but it makes sense now. :)

Only time will tell how good an idea the extra sections are. If they get used, then it works, if a few month passes and nobody is using them, then they should be removed again.

There's really no point in discussing it right now, the sections have to be given a chance.

Really though, I'd say this was a fairly neat forum, there's no sections that are blatantly under-used from what I can see.

I use the View posts since last visit feature which makes navigation a bit easier. It would be very helpful to have a Mark all forums read feature, however.

There is such a feature, but it doesn't show when viewing posts since last visit. It's on the front page of the forum.

Then definitely don't visit the Steam Users forum. ;)

They have a couple hundred forums! One for each of the games they sell.

When the PB Team finally have the time to move to phpBB3 things will get even better as you can have proper nested forums with that etc.

PhpBB3 is great - it's very easy to move from V2 to V3.

Well, there are 19 forums now (for most users)
So there is no problem, its not bloated by your standards :)

We decided - i quote freak here - not to set "fixed rules" for a creation of a forum.
Even if your software is very good, large user base, has a team of 5 coders that give extremely fast support, is no guarantee to get a forum section.

A professional application - example k-billing, PureVision - has it's own website or forum. The authors can manage there business much better this way.

The 2 extra forums created now are for products that extend Purebasic's capability's. And they generated the largest threads in this forum.

We don't expect an extra forum will be needed the first 2 years...

I think the new forums are a great idea - I suggested exactly this a couple of years ago. They allow talented developers with limited resources to share their creations and provide support without the burden of setting up web sites and forums of their own.
It also allows the PB site to be a focal point rather than have multiple sites which would become a pain for the users to search.

Well done PB Team :-)

I like a real "Showcase" much better than the strange "Announcement" subforum...

but, there is no Games-Showcase? :?
