This project was mentioned a while back (over a year now). But recently it has come out of the shadows if you like, and work has started on it again. There have been a few confusions (damn that language barrier), but progress has been made.
I've improved my programming skills a fair bit since then too, and have managed to get a couple of wrappers working under linux and windows (from the same sourcecode).
We don't have a GUI at the moment, but that should be coming very soon (windows only for the moment).

So what I'm asking here is if there is anyone who wants to help this time around, and i mean for real.
I'm not asking for full time developers, just people who want to help out in their spare time, or just whenever. I'm not going to go at it full time, but I'm determined to get it going. MSN support is going steady (considering the difficulty), and XMPP support will be taking leaps soon (when i get on to it ). If you use another IM protocol, and are interested in developing support for it in PureMessenger, this would be excellent, as I use primarily MSN.

It is going to be cross platform, so if you rely too heavy on API, then you will have to learn to rely on it less if you would like to help. It is a community driven project, so any help is welcome.

If you speak another language, you will be of great help to the project, as I wish to make it multi-lingual also. You could even help out only with translations, everything is voluntary.

On the programming side, I am specifically looking for a linux programmer who is good with GUIs. I am no good with GUIs on windows or on linux, and the windows developer who is helping at the moment is unable to install linux. Help would be greatly appreciated in this aspect. Once reason I'm pushing for linux support is because I use it mainly now, but I do still use windows.

I also need some help compiling a lib with MinGW which i just ahve not been able to do. If you are able to help with this, please let me know!

I'm currently working on a PureMessenger mockup and I think I could do most of the translation job to the Finnish language too.. could you post a layout of PureMessenger, it would make the interface designing easier ^o^

for the moment, use your imagination!
i only have a few basic ideas, and i have another working on a mockup but under windows.
we'll put together the best bits, and make them work on win+lin


(and i didnt understand what u mean by a layout of puremessenger... did u mean the basics of what it had to have?)

With a layout I mean an image which shows where specific controls go, such as the contacts list, online/offline icon, etc...

Then, based on the layout I am going to make a mockup of the interface; this will then be the one to be in the final version. If we are going to make an instant messaging client, then one which supports themes/skins, it will bring more fame than you will ever dream of! ^o^

Hi there! I am working on the Windows Interface these days, it should look pretty good and you can skin allmost all gadgets.

@Irene, if you want we can cooperate to create the same layout on all the platforms. I'll talk to Lex after the first test is created and he shall make it public if he desires.

but that sounds good for the moment, but eventually you guys'll have to cooperate
I want at least the default interface to be the same on linux+win
but we'll get ideas for the final one from both these 'mockups'

@irene: with your layout mockup, I'd prefer the online/offline/etc icons on the left, or better yet, switchable

I hated skins too and i still do... The problem is that i'm not in charge of the project. It would be much easyer for me to create a good user interface if it wasn't skinned. And on Linux we can't even skin correctly. Unless Irene knows GTK well enough to subclass stuff.

i never said it had to use skins
they could be an optional component later, but if it can be made look good without, then all the better
the smaller the binarys and the faster it runs, the better!

edit: heck, i spend half of today recompiling a DLL in MingGW cuz it was taking way too long on windows... (wasn't helped by the fact that the patch had disappeared from the web - needed to use archive.org)

with the interface, something slightly like this is ok (this one didnt support display pics)
(and i wasnt too careful with the blur tool )

I have found a cool solution . Not skinned but skinned... I mean some areas of the window will carry a very nice design, but the gadgets themselves will not be skinned. It will look great. I am already working on it and I'll post the test here soon.
