Well here is my favorite:
http://www.google.com/patents?id=JAckAA ... =breathing
invented in 1994. I wonder why there were gas masks in the first world war and how pilots in the 1960 could breath in their fighters if this astonishing "invention" was only invented in 1994

Nik, the patent was for the headwear to support a breathing apparatus, not for the breatig apparatud itself.
A unique and novel implementation of straps... OK we all know Straps have been around since slightly before the invention of the wheel (in Texas...) no one has patented them yet!

I know it was for the straps, but they said it was for mounting a breating apartus on a hood, and taht's just what was used in World War 1 and fighters since World War 2, I Germany patent law states that something one can patent must have been the result on an act of invention, and taht's something different than the act of engeniering, if you give 5 year old some straps and a joghurt cup and tell them to mount the joghurt cup in front of the mouth they will probably design the patented apparaturs, no invention involved. Here in Germany for example the patent Microsoft had for the way long filenames were stored in fat32 was rejected because every computer science student would come up with this idea in no time if he had to solve the given problem. I think you Americans realy misunderstood what an invention is. Developing this straps design definitely isn't

Keep in mind... it is the first person to get the idea through the patent office, not the person who invents it that usually wins the patent wars.
But that is also why it is sooooo difficult to patent ideas. In a generalization; how can you patent an idea. You and I can easily have the same, or at least similar ideas, and our executions of that idea, even our style might be similar.
There are many people that had an idea but were not fast enough. Have you searched for the "almost famous" who were just a bit too late to the patent shop? You might see some really interesting things then!

I tried to patent the idea of patenting but the patent office didn't want to patent my idea since it involved too much patenting and patenting that idea would involve alot more patents and the patents office didn't want to make any errors in the process of patenting my patent idea so I laid that patent idea to a patent rest in my patented metal box, oh wait, it says Patent pending on it....

That is why you should have patented envelopes. Anybody filing for a patent always sends it in an envelope
