Which Linux brand does Purebasic work best with?
There are so many brands out there, it's hard to choose? There is Suse, Ubuntu, Redhat, Knoppix, Vectorlinux, etc etc etc.
I have Suse 10.0, but before I commit myself to using it. Could anyone please tell me what they are using and why in particular they
prefer the brand that they are using? As well as what desktop enviroment you prefer using. eg: Gnome, KDE, or Xfce.
I really appreciate your input, because making the step from windows to linux is hard enough let alone choosing the wrong brand to
use Purebasic with too.
I may not be able to reply back right away do to work, but I really would appreciate any advice on this matter.

Ok, I have some months testing Linux distributions mainly because I wanted
to make it my primary OS. Im not going to talk about every distribution I tested.

I decided Ubuntu, first because I dont have problem running PB, second I can
customize it a lot, third is faster than Win XP at least in my PC.
I prefer Gnome, I had problem with KDE and I dont like its look and feel, I feel
it slower compared with Gnome. I tested Xfce4 inside ubuntu 7.04 but I failed
to connect my wireless I decided forget it.

PB for linux is advancing, but my personal appreciation is it is behind PB for
Windows. in Ubuntu I feel PB slower...

Im developing my first app Windows/Linux and of course I have problems in
Linux side mainly because I dont know Linux API...

Ok it is a personal point of view, talking about Linux people has a lot of choices
and some of them sure dont like ubuntu , same way I dont like othe Linux
distributions.

but wait for an expert answer... Im not.

The choice of a distro.... technically the're all up to date... so this is a matter of taste... I'm using LinuxMint (based on Ubuntu) because all needed codecs are installed by default (nearly all media is working right out of the box) http://www.linuxmint.com (there is a Gnome and a KDE version at present; but using another Desktop is no problem.. as in all other distros too)
Imho one of the Best Distros at present....

If you have the possibility to try several Distros (LiveCD) then do it... and choose the distro which you feel best with...

Personally i like debian and the easy use of apt (package manager) (used Suse for a long time from 7.0 up to 9.2... but then changed to a debian based Distro)

Have a look at http://distrowatch.com where you can find many Distros with a short description and appropriate download links (I guess you know that... but others will read this too..)

PB is running on nearly all distros.. (not tested yet ) but on SuSe and Debian based Distros for sure (Slackware and BSD-like ... don't know but I guess it will run too)

OpenSUSE is the most stable, secure and usable distro.

I upgraded to (X)ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 last night.

I use on my real-pc opensuse 10.2, the only one which support all my hardware, and on vmware i use xubuntu 7.04, also nice linux

I chose Ubuntu and many reasons led to me making that decision.

It needed pkg-config dependency solved

I use Purebasic with Slackware 11.0 and Sabayon 3.3.

I'm a bit of a noob in Unix, however using Ubuntu is highly recommended, I use it on with virtualbox and it is excellent. Highly recommended
