COM section to these forums!

An obvious ask now that ts-soft and kiffi have brought the world of COM and ActiveX within easy reach with their work on the PureDispHelper library:
http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtopic.php?t=26744
I think, quite aside from interfaces and such like, this library itself requires more than just a single thread within the announcement section as all this stuff will be very new to quite a lot of us (myself most definitely included!

)
I think it's the perfect time to add such a section to the forums.
Thanks.

Yes.
Please.
Pretty please.
With bells ons.
And chocolate sprinkles.
And cherries on top.

Yes, yes, please.
And also please split the existing large thread initiated by ts-soft and kiffi into many separate threads, so as to have one per COM example.

Yes i would like this too, because has we start working on COM objects it's natural we get many questions

I don't see the need for a special forum. For WinAPI stuff there is no separate forum either.
Simply use the existing forums: Coding Questions, Tips'n'Tricks etc.

Such a forum could work to PB's benefit as well as those seeking help with COM / ActiveX etc; which let's face it is a flaming mine field at best!
How many noob's have wondered into these forums with one thing on their mind: does PB support COM and ActiveX etc? Such a forum could address these questions immediately and show the world that PB developers (even dappy ones like myself!

) can indeed use com components etc.
It's just a thought and I for one would find such a forum very useful.
Still, at the end of the day, I respect your decision either way.

Yes, buy winapi is not related to ONE library and in this case all this stuff are related to ONE library.

Would be useful, I don't got a clue about COM or OCX and this would be helpful for me! Looks very cool...

Indeed!

We could have everything, from stuff going back to axend through all the stuff you (freak) have done and up to the recent release by ts-soft in there!
It would also differentiate in everyone's minds com/ocx/etc from normal/procedural code.
It would unclutter other forums/boards.
* hunts for arguments *
We would sing your praises from time to time.

It sounds like you cannot use your newfound treasure without a forum section.
Nobody forces you to discuss all this in the announcement thread...
The problem with such specialized forum sections is that people tend to post all over the
place anyway, and so moderators are the ones chasing the posts and moving them around in the end.
In extrem cases, the dedicated forum is completly under-used and the discussions go on elsewhere.
Take the "Windows" forum: Not too much going on there, yet lots of WinAPI poping up elsewhere.
As COM is a Windows technology, why not just use the "Windows" subforum to discuss it ?
It is one of the "not so much used" forums anyway, so maybe you can get some life into it.
ricardo wrote:Yes, buy winapi is not related to ONE library and in this case all this stuff are related to ONE library.
Yet another reason why there is no need for an extra section.

You are obligated to do that anyway...

I belive the windows section is the right place.
If not:
The userlib developer(s) can create an own webplace for the lib and source examples.

Now that is called shooting yourself in the foot! If this goes to court, then please ensure I get a different lawyer than ricardo!
Only kidding lad!
The Windows forum it is then.
@freak - how about a side note underneath the Windows title? i.e. where it now says (Windows specific forum), how about (Windows specific forum - including COM technologies etc) ? I know it's splitting hairs etc. but it will keep the masses happy (by the masses I mean me and that other COM duffer Dare!

)

heya srod!
I think I have identified a problem.
We need to get some credibility.
We need a facelift. Better PR. Spindoctors.
We need to have it so that when we suggest something then everyone else goes "wow, if they think it is a good idea it MUST be a good idea."
We need bloat!
Out with anything suggesting "old" and in with, er, "stable release".
Out with anything suggesting "dull" and in with, um, "cutting edge."
So out with the "old COM duffers" and in with, um, "cutting edge stable release OCX duffers".
You get the drift.
Out with the thesaurus!
