Does anyone one know how to make a window occupy screen space in a way so that maximized window won't cover it, like a panel or the task bar on Windows? (This is called something with strut.)

No, that will make maximized window be located UNDER my window. I want maximized windows to be located BESIDE my window.

GTk can't be used for this, I think. I think "raw" X must be used.
