Okay...

So I know that me and probably a lot of other PureBasic users might want to start selling their software in the future. So I was wondering if there was anyone here that would recommend any automated services for selling software? (so you can just relax and doesn't need to bother with sending the emails with serials)

Or is there any other way of automating this?
Maybe a program that reads you emails and finds every paypal payment notifications and sends the serial to the user automatically?

Anyone here who have any experience with things like this (selling software) and wants to give us some advices or help?

I used to use RegNet (www.reg.net) and will again in the future. Reason? No
fees unless you sell something, so your product can sit there just waiting for
a user to click-and-buy, and then they take a small cut for themselves. Also,
they can send out serials (or full product) for your purchasers, so you don't
have to do anything. And the serials can be something you provide to them,
or as an app you give to them to generate the serials. All up to you.

As for PayPal: I don't trust them. I've read too many horror stories about how
they can hold your money and refuse to hand it over if there's a dispute, because
they're not a bank so are not legally obliged to give you access to your money.

I always used http://bmtmicro.com and never had any problems. I even used them back in the old days when they were a BBS.

I've used Share-it for a while now (but I've had no sales - nothing to do with the company, my products are rubbish ) set up and everything is pretty easy and I've had no difficulties with it.

Yes, this can be easily done with the PurePOP3 library (to read the body of
your e-mails) and then you just send an e-mail back with the serial. Simple.

My experience teach me that its not because anyone products are rubbish, but because exactly as its needed to learn programming, every seller need to learn how the internet market works.

I've used share-it but i found them to be quite hard to use and not very user friendly. To get things setup just right you have to spend alot of time emailing them, asking them to do whatever. I prefer it if this was all inside their web application that i could log into and change. I probably won't use them again.

Thats why Paypal is the best.

Well known, easy, almost everybody has an account (at least in USA, where most buyers comes from...) and you can even have your own debit card to take cash directly whenever you want (and have funds!).

Yup, PayPal horror stories are a dime-a-dozen, what percentage of them are true is the one big unknown, but that there are so many doesn't bode well... My advise is if you decide to use them, pay a little extra and have them do a daily sweep of all the funds in your PayPal account to your bank account, that way if something does happen, the most you can loose is a day's worth of sales.

Back when I was selling my own software, I used SWREG and really liked them, it's a little more work than other sites to set up but all the customization options make it worth it. Plus I prefer to host my key generator myself rather than give it or data needed to generate keys to someone else.

re: PayPal.

Years ago, I had a problem with PayPal, I lost $40 or $50 when I tried to make a purchase. I was lucky. It took a year, but I got my money back.

Since then, PayPal was sold and bought by EBay. In fairness I do not hold the past against the PayPal that exists today. I am not overly fond of EBay because of their security issues over the years, but I have no problem making a purchase through PayPal now that they do not require an account to make purchases.

If I was still selling software, I would definitely have PayPal as a method of payment. Note "a method" not "the method". There should still be an option for non PayPal users which is a lot of people here in the USA.

The various Shareware services are nice because they allow people to order over the phone via a toll-free number and they allow people to order with a check or money order via snail mail. Some of the services will even handle PayPal payments for you.

Maybe PayPal is better overseas, but here in Australia it SUCKS for taking
payments. I used it with eBay for a few sales and it literally takes over a
week to get the money transferred from my PayPal account to my normal
bank account. SEVEN DAYS OR MORE. That makes it unusable for me. :roll:
Plus, we Aussies get extra transaction fees for the transfer which other
users of PayPal don't. I really hate living in this country. With a passion.

But you can use the paypal debit card to get cash instantly from ATM.

Paypal debit card is free and works very fine.
