PureBASIC and Cobra

Hi, a while back I complained about the gaming side of PureBASIC (although I love PureBASIC).
I think the solution has come about with the arrival of a new computer language called Cobra. Cobra has some similarities with PureBASIC because it's not an OOP based language.
http://www.squeakyduck.co.uk/
It's pure 2d at the moment which means it will run on anything from Windows95 up and doesn't require DirectX or Opengl. But this is only because the author is making sure he is able to support any bugs that might arise in the language. The 2d in 3d and full 3d modules are complete and will be introduced soon.
So with PureBASIC's excellence in producing very fast and compact applications and Cobra's game production the small independent programmer is spoilt for choice!
Please register and ask questions of Graham at the Cobra site - not here.

This should be in off-topic (with the other COBRA thread) since it has nothing to do with PB.

Hmm, I disagree - PureBASIC and Cobra are two languages that compliment each other nicely - that's my point.

What have you been smoking? The 2D capabilities of PB exceed those of COBRA in performance and features.
Blitz Plus is a piece of crap and even its "software driver" outperforms COBRA's, although COBRA beats it in features.
ION 3D will be great for PB, as PB's 3D is so worthless that NOBODY uses it.
But since COBRA is a programming lanuage, there is no way it can even be used in conjunction with PB anyway.
Maybe Graham's anal warts can refrain from oozing their puss and spamming the forums with COBRA promos and hold off until ION 3D is released which is something PBers could actually use.

I bet Jesus didn't speak to people like that, Mr. Bible Study.

Thanks Trond. That's one thing I don't like is the fanatical support of PureBASIC by some people - it's only a computer language! Albeit a very good one.
I think you use the best language for the job - PureBASIC for applications and Cobra for it's built-in game facilities - I've bought both and rate them highly.
As for performance, this is a 1st draft so to speak and the author admits there are optimizations to be made. However, you can't compare a pure2d module to a hardware accelerated one - the 3d hardware accelerated module is complete and when released will speed things up considerably - this IS just a software renderer for now and will enable your game to run on just about any PC. And unless you've bought it the debugger runs continually in the demo so slows things right down. The full 3d module is looking impressive btw.
I'll repeat this one more time and not post again on this thread - use PureBASIC OR Cobra dependent on your needs - the right tool for the right job.

Ah,yes, Mr. kill all the jews. How have you been?

Nah, no fanatical support for PB here, not on my part. Only problem I have is you being a jerk and ignoring the forum rules and not posting this in off-topic where it belongs.

Want to promote COBRA, do it in the off topic like you are supposed to, you might actually get a warm response and a polite discussion about it.
Graham has created a decent product. Its a shame that people like you and Kanati seem hell-bent and driving COBRA into the ground as much as you can by intentionally posting announcements for it in the wrong forums, when you both know better!

ignoring the forum rules
where are those rules?
(I actually do agree that this topic doesn't belong here. But you can say it in a polite way.)

I second Trond's.
Steve has a hundred postings, I don't think all of them were about COBRA,
so there is no need to treat him like an advertising Bot....

I'll second that! I haven't been able to do something usefull with Blitz Plus. A total waste of money!

I was very polite to the first person who did this. Second person doing it, nah not going to be polite.

If he has a hundred postings then he definitely knows what he did was wrong and he definitely knows the correct forum for posting such info in.

I don't know about Blitz+, but BlitzMax with MaxGui are very capable.
As for this Cobra, I remember reading on Blitz forums about some tension
regarding this Cobra, something about those involved trying to jack users
from the Blitz community. Though it's been a while now and maybe I'm
thinking of another language and not Cobra. And seeing that Cobra was
born of Blitz users, I don't see why there'd even be any comparison of it
here on PB forums, because as far as I know, they're not even close to
each other. Again, I could be wrong though and if I am, then I'm sorry.

Personally, I'm always keen to know of the choices available to me, so if there is a new programming language out there, I would love to know about it!

I've begun using PureBasic for a quick Windows program I'm writing and it sure is fun to use! However, right now, I'm not using it for games, as in my feeble mind, Blitz and Cobra would be more appropriate. For games, I'm still a big fan of Blitz3D right now.
