I am thinking about switching to purebasic 4.
Can I use image commands without having gtk installed now?
(Most of my users have no gnome. Only kde)

The image manipulation is still gtk (gdk) based. That will not change.
You do not need gnome to run gtk applications. It works with kde as well if the gtk
packages are installed.

The GTK packages usually come with all major distributions as popular applications like GIMP or Firefox use it.

Its not the case for kubuntu. This seems to be a kde only distribution.
They use krita instead of gimp.
When I install the gtk package it I get the wrong version (at least it was like this the last time I tried)
I will try again...
