PureLinux LiveCD

Recently I see many people having problems with installing PureBasic on Linux. So I thought it might be a good idea to remaster a small liveCD with the needed software to Install PB, since I won't put Purebasic in there, I would only install the needed Packages, and put in there a File discribing how to install PB. Another optionm would be to make it available only in the private secion, but that wouldn't allow us to use BitTorrent to save Traffic. So I ask you would you like to see such a LiveCD.

PS: i would like to base it on GRML which is a small LiveCD Distribution based on Debian which comes from the University of Graz. Since I haven't very much time, I don't know how often I can do releases but I hope I can follow when they release a new version of grml.
(see grml.org for info)

You can include the demo version if you want. This way it can be immediately tested.
Then maybe a small tool to copy the full version over it. (once the user downloaded it from his account)
Beach did the same with his PureWinLin package iirc.

The v4 demo for linux will be only released after the beta period is over though.

sounds good but i dont think it would be good to use grml...
dont know about the full version, but the small version has a problem with locale stuff and perl....
and i just didnt like it very much.....

perhaps it would be better to just base it on debian itsself...?
or fedora...

i'd be interested in helping if it gets off the ground at all....

Well tested grml small yesterday aswell it's not nearly as good as rhe full version, We will see, basing on debian isn't that easy since it doesn''t have a LiveCD version you can remaster, it would be possible to use Knoppix though.

The general problem with live-cd's is is that they usually go through much
work to cut out the complete build environment (gcc, headers, dev-libs etc) to save space,
and you have to go all the way to put that back in to run PB.

I made an attempt a very long time ago with Morphix (http://www.morphix.org/ a livecd meant to be remastered),
but i have no idea what progress they made since then. I had to abandon the
project quite early because of limited time. (got involved with the PB development itself at that time)

I am still dreaming of a DSL based livecd that runs PB.
(Maybe at ~100mb, so it can be run of a small USB stick or something :))

Thats the good thing about grml, it's focused on Texttoolas and sysadmins and comes with gcc, g++, and even tiny c, I will try to get rid of things like emacs and sysadmin tools, and unneeded window managers. And then install the libs needed by PB. The advantage grml has over DSL is that it also comes with a recent kernel. And thanks to it being debian based I hope to be able to remaster it quite easily. I'm just now setting up my grml on harddrive environment in qemu (I know it's slow but I love my 20" screen on my Mac and don't want to steal Parallels), which has the support for squashfs in it I need for remastering
