What's down? The link above? Works fine here. Here's what it starts with:
Vista gold but cracked already

Microsoft Windows Vista and Office 2007 only just went gold, and their anti-piracy measures have already been cracked. Various pirate websites have a version of Vista available to download, called "Vista BillGates". It comes supplied with a product key, allowing users to install the operating system on their computers unhindered. A second patch - a separate download, called an "activation crack" - must also be applied. This bypasses the activation process used by Vista to ensure that each installation is legitimate.

One portion of the activation has been cracked, that's all. But Microsoft only needs to change stuff on their end to stop it. But that won't be done until middle of january ;)

Btw, got my gift from Microsoft last night, the full RTM release with universal key that works for all Vista versions, including the two N versions ;)

Well, I've been a beta tester of Windows since 1999 for one, and at the TechNet Live meeting in Bergen I was promised the Microsoft Partner package (contains several OS, Office, etc) but they didn't have anymore left. So Stig Nerland from the MS Tools team asked if I wanted the Vista package instead. So I said yes. I had completely forgotten all about it till I got the note from the postoffice about a package waiting the for me :)

Just finished installing it, I installed Home Premium because I haven't tried that version yet.

Everything runs SOOOO much faster and smoother then any of the RC version that I've tried.

Do you want to make a bet with me?
I say that it will be cracked within 1 week ;)

Doesn't matter. Activation is different on Vista then on XP. You don't have to install the Windows Genuine app, it is already inside Vista, so MS can change the procedure on their side as often as they want, rendering the cracks useless. That's the idea anyways.

But how much slower than XP?

My experience with the RC's is that it's faster than XP.

Depends on how you have configured it, and offcourse of your hardware devices.
With all or most stuff at max, using 3D scrolling windows and the added file execution security it seems to be no difference from running XP.

You won't see much difference in normal operating use, but if you game, then try launching a game and see your framerate drop to 60% of what it was in XP

Hehe hope they don't crack it that easy, not that I like Windows, I have now fully switched to Mac OS X and Linux^^, but Windows lives from the crackers, it can't exist without them since the pirated software is the main point for using it. You can't count the kiddies that state they can't work with GIMP and need Photoshop when they test Linux, but I bet not even half of them has a Photoshop licence, it's this view of why get the OpenSource stuff made by volunteers when they can get the commercial stuff for free. So if Microsoft really stops the software pirates it will be the signing of their own death sentence.
I wish you all a happy hacking season
