Hey guys,

Maybe you helder, wiser, guys have been through this in your lifes, but i've reached a point where i feel completely bored with my job, it sucks like hell, can't seem to produce anything, and just get the crap beaten out of me every day...

I don't even have the will to power up my PC, i just sit at home watching crap shows on the tube.

I haven't done a line of code in.... 2 months....


Maybe it's the 30 year old crisis or something...

I just whish i was bloddy rich, so i could do nothing for a year, and come back fully recharged...

I just started another new job 4 weeks ago. I haven't coded anything
serious for months. I'm 36. I feel like you and don't have much time
anymore for coding. I try to do a bit every day of an app I'm working
on, but I don't stress too much. Sometimes you just need that break
from coding. As for your job, all you can do is just keep looking until
you see something you can go for, and then just go for it. That's what
I did.

I'm having the itchy feet feeling that my job is no longer fullfilling anymore. And i also get that 'Shouldn't i be more successful than this' feeling that all mid 30s men go through... *sigh* Coding keeps me sane and occupied as i can't watch the crap on TV. I sometimes think that i'm wasting my time at work too, as what i do at home is more interesting, harder work, involves more decision making and is ultimately more fullfilling. Doh!

I always keep an eye on the job papers though.

38 and went that one step further and jacked in my job!

Have enough money for about two years and I now spend my days writing mathematics materials which pay a few bills and programming. Got to say that I'm loving it. Best decision I ever made.

Hell, if nothing comes of this two year period (or I run out of cash!) then I will look for some job or other. Heck I don't know where this is going, all I know is that I'm much happier, doing what I want to do, and have a bloody cheesy grin plastered all over my face.

I look at it as taking a year out (or 2 years!) kind of like a gap year which many uni students take these days. Why not? There's nothing in the rule book which says I can't do this.

Helps not having a family I guess.

Friends still think I'm bonkers, but I'm not the one trudging into work every day...

Then again, some of those *astards earn 60 grand a year!

Been there before. Luckily I got a girlfriend, kids, parents that love me and a brother. Without them, I'd go crazy, no doubt.
I haven't had a job that was fulfulling since I was 15 years old and worked in a bus garage, sounds crazy but I loved to make things. I was doing body work. Creating new body panels and things like that. Worked there for about 3 years.

Not sure what else to say really, but friends and family do help. Must admit I'm not very good at taking care of my friends

Sometimes I open up PureBasic and just want to sleep instead of programming. I have to be in the right mood if I want to program...
It's like in The Sims, the sims will not do anything "hard" if they're not in the right mood, so you have to let them watch TV, be a little be social etc...
I guess it's quite the same in real life!

I am 42 (!) and my job isn't related to programming or even computers.
So as programming is a hobby, I can never get enough of it ...
And my current job isn't boring !

well i understand. sometimes i'm also tired of this.

i like programming - but at my own speed.
and since 3 years i'm programming at work AND at home in order to close projects in time.

fortunately, my girlfriend know when to say me when i work too much.

so now i try to program only at work.
not so easy but well i feel also much better, and more accurate at work.

but even at work, sometimes it's hard.
who said that programmer is an easy work ?

I'm 41.
Is it me or can't you 40'rs just imagne you are nearly 50?

50 man.. almost dead.. or something.

About my job, i think i have a fine one.
But i have a serious brain failure, chaotic, can't remember some things from last week, and tired rapidly.

I blame the programming..

Same here, my job sucks like hell, but I don't care at all! I just make shure I give them what they pay
for, and as for the rest, life is more than what happens at work.

52 here. And been through enough phases to know that whether you change jobs or not, the feeling will pass eventually. Life is a series of endless ebbs and flows and even though it can seem at times that the rhythm has stopped, it's never really the case. Patience is one of the most difficult life skills to learn, but it's also one of the most valuable.

Find something you love to do and figure out a way to make money at it, like srod. Even if you go broke in the process, its better than the regret you will feel if you never take a chance.
