The forum has now been restored from my personal backup, which was taken just 2 days prior to the attack. Sadly, a few posts will still be missing
I'm still trying to determine exactly how they hacked the site and why my ISP restored an old backup, without my asking them to do so. They actually created the bigger problems!
Anyway, let's put this whole episode behind us and get back to PureBasic...

Leigh,
Sure it was a f... hacking issue ? This may also be just a provider mistake. Anyway, you finally restored with a only 2 days gap. If would like to thank you for your bravery and stubbornness. You got over the worst.

It was originally hacked - It came up with "Red Eye - VoOdOo" (or something similar) on all of my default.asp pages! That was easy to sort out though, it was the ISP restore that that lost us two weeks worth of posts.

Here in Belgium, ISP with such problems is called ama....

Hi Leigh
Its nice to have some old topics back... but its really sad, that the new posted stuff (you know, i tried to restore some deleted stuff between 05.-20.Oct too) and esp. the new postings after the database crash are again no longer available... Thats a bit frustrated... Because was there no way to add the new postings to the old restored database?
Ok, now we have maybe nealy all old postings restored but for that we have lost all new postings... ;(((( And i dont have the time and motivation to post all my new stuff (bugs i.e.) again ;(
Maybe i am a bit childrish but please not i tried to write my old postings with bugs i.e. again and now i have to post it again (3rd time)? Atm no, i will learn for my exclamations...

Maybe it would be nice to add on forum sites somewhere an official email link to contact you, if there are some troubles or whatever with the forum before guys are trying to restore stuff self or whatever! Thx!

Other than your recent posts, there weren't actually many new posts. Database merging was not an option on this occasion - Sorry.
In the 18 months the forums have been running, this has been the only serious incident! I've been working to improve the forum's performance and stability over the last month or so. I'm also looking to move to a more secure/faster service, but this doesn't come cheap. The PureBasic user base is moving at an alarming (but encouraging) rate, and the forums will need to grow accordingly. Unfortunately, the recent "hacking" was beyond my control - I had assumed that my ISP provided sufficient protection.

That's not childish - We've all been inconvenienced by this little incident. Personally, it really p*ssed me off when it first happened and I lost motivation for a day or so...

I remember asking you for a copy of the database contents a long time ago but I never actually thanked you for the hard work you do. I apologise for that. Without your forum to skulk through code to help me, I would never have gotten as far as I did. To date, I have written 8 applications!!
Thanks Leigh

Don't lose heart. I'm sorry that I was so eager to jump ship but I
seriously thought you were going to throw in the towel. These forums
are great and I'm sure without doubt that we all appreciate your work.

Thanks to have finally sorting it out, Leigh. Managing a forum isn't always an easy task.. As you use IIS (or the hosting company), it would be useful to look every week at security site to have the time to apply the patch before the really stupids 'script kiddiez'. A good site:
