You contact them and they explain, very nicely, that in order to claim your prize you must pay a few hundred pounds -kind of a release fee I think (not really sure how they usually explain this).

You'll be surprised how many daft idiots fall for this. :)

Kind of like selling your car; guy comes to the door, takes the car, telling you that he'll put a cheque in the post!

the reason I even opened the email was that they made it look like came from Microsoft, the subject line said Microsoftpromotions.

Thanks for the mental image... *brrrr*

We Swiss call the sausage Wiener. So do we call the people from vienna. Except for the French, Italian or Rumantsch speaking part of Switzerland. I have no idea how they call either of them.

in the USA the term is sometimes jokingly used in reference to "you are winner" scam.
