Diablo?

Hi all,
I've always had a desire to write a WW II game based on a game my friends and I used to play when we were kids.
It was a game we invented which was strange cross between Dungeons & Dragons and a game I owned called Stalingrad.
Anyway, I would be interested in any help with this. I am new to game programming but I have written some small programs in PB and have been programming for a living for the past 19 years.
I would like the player's view to be a top-down view over the action or perhaps a 3rd person view as in Diablo.
Does anyone know:
1. Good examples of game code
2. Any examples of game code for a Diablo-like game
3. Cheap graphic artist that might help

4. Any advice in general
Thanks!

You're right, it is a large undertaking. But I figure if I don't start somewhere, I'll never start at all and what's the worst that can happen?
I'll learn a lot, that's the worst that can happen.
Any other suggestions anyone?
I've always wondered how Diablo's graphics are done as they seem to be a strange combination of 3D graphics from a skewed 2D angled view.
I'd love to find out how it's done.
Isometric

I think that Diablo uses Isometric tiles to get that almost 3D look. Try googling that and see what turns up.Just a thought.

Looks like most graphics there are 3D or isometric.
Are there a similar good web with sound effects?
