Do you remember the old days? Your first BASIC application on a Commodore 64? Or perhaps an Amiga or even the first PC (with it's whopping 256K of memory)? Remember how cool it was to code a little game or utility and see it run in all it's glory? Remember how small and fast the program was?

Well, somewhere along the way, we lost our programming innocence. Perhaps it was because we got a little older and maybe a little more cynical... or maybe it was working with all the Microsoft tools and their multi-megabyte runtime libraries, not to mention slow and bloated execution. Or maybe it was Java, with it's virtual machine, taking you even further away from the machine and it's power.

Whatever the case, it's nice to finally have a programming tool that is small and fast, and that makes it fun to code again. I write alot of Java code for a living, which is fine, but it just seems so sterile and cold, compared to the old days of Basic (and even C). PureBasic takes me back to those old days, and fires up my imagination.

I just registered and received my copy of PureBasic today. I'm excited about the posibilities of PureBasic. The forum is great, with alot of knowledgable, polite members. I look forward to coding a lot of cool applications and having a lot of fun conversations here in the forum!

Cheers! I off to write my first PureBasic application!!

You will find a lot of code and other good stuff to get you start here.

I do recommend that you pick Pure GUI its still in the works but looks to be a very nice app for PureBasic.

Hello Chris. It's very nice to meet you. Of course I remember the dos-times because I have an old computer from 1988 (Exactly the year when I was born) running under Dos 3,34. It doesn't even have a harddisk and It's CPU speed is at 9,54Mhz but It is very fast and save (for apps that run on this machine). It has never crashed. Today it is in the roof chamber.

And though PureBasic is another of the old 'Basic's, it gives you all the possibilities a language needs. Many other basics were not bad, but they didn't have all the possibilities, C++ had. Today, there is PureBasic. And with all it's features (and of course: A programmer who knows to use these features well) PureBasic can be more powerful than C++. And: PureBasic combines both: Possibilities and it's very easy to use. I am sure you are going to do lots of cool things with this language. Enjoy coding. Bye!!!

I remember my first steps coding hpl (Hewlett Packard Language) on a HP9825 table computer in 1975 !

I had a 64KB memory, a single 256KB floppy, a single line 80 chars display ...

And know I use Purebasic on a 256MB ram, 1,2GHz proc, 20GB disk ... you know what, I am happy.

Welcome Chris
