With the current beta of Vista, when you install it what is the "default" resolution it uses?

(example, for me XP always defaults to 800x600 and then I have to change it).

I installed it on my laptop and as the laptop is wide screen the default resolution was 1280x800. In a normal Display I don't know which default resolution it uses.

Hehe, why is this important for you?

Because the game I am current working on is a desktop game that should be "final" around the time Vista is shipping and I want to use a size that will be "friendly" to the "average home user" of Vista who does not change their resolutions, etc.

Since the game is not aimed at gaming gurus and would NOT do well fullscreen, I really need to be able to "target" the default resolution settings of Vista.

The resolution Vista has when you start it for the first time depends on the drivers. If it can use the drivers that comes on the DVD and they work on most resolutions and your graphics card have 64MB or more of memory it will display horizontal 1024 or 1280 resolution depending on your card. If it can't find a proper driver for your card then 800x600 will be used as default.

This is also the issue on the latest int build 5456. :)

The average home user doesn't install windows herself. Almost anyone capable of installing windows is capable of setting a resonable resolution. If I recall, windows actually keeps bugging the user if the resolution is as low as 800x600... or was that 640?? Anyway I think you can safely expect at least 1024 wide from average joe.

Also, most computers come with everything pre-installed and set up.
