GMail users

From what I've read, GMail has received pretty good ratings from forum users. In fact, for the past two years it's been my email of choice. Over that period, I've changed all my accounts, and my families, to use GMail.
For the past several days, I haven't been able to log into GMail. Have been through a rather exhaustive trouble shooting process, but at the end of the day, no real success.
In checking various forums, it seems that I'm not the only one with GMail problems. I can find many users experiencing the same problems I'm having. It seems to me that GMail tends to push the envelope as far as their technology is concerned.
Not looking for problem solving advice - I'm moving back to a regular domain based email account under my control. Just sharing my experience with a suggestion that you might not want to put ALL your email eggs in the GMail basket - at a minimum set it up to allow POP access.
cheers

What happens when you try to login? Just a blank page?

Various things. Sometimes a "loading" message in the top right corner, sometimes it goes to a screen saying "this is taking a long time - visit our help center (which I'm also unable to access).
Net, net, everything results in a time out or blank screen. have tried on numerous computers in my home network, cleared cookies, cache, tried different mtu settings, etc.
Net - no Gmail access for me. I know of other people who have no problems, but in my household, GMail is (soon to be) a thing of the past.
Now just have to select a good e-mail client:)
cheers

I use Gmail every single day and have never once had a minute's trouble with it. I mostly use FireFox, but occasionally IE or Opera and there are no differences that I've seen between them.

Nor had I untill friday evening.
This post is not meant to be a slam at GMail. No defence of it is necessary. I know many many happy gmail users - i was one until friday. But searching various forums has convinced me that my experience is by no means isolated and I'm merely passing that along. I'm by no means looking to start a GMail good/bad war:). Three days without access to email tends to make one cautious. Others may benefit from that, but I sincerely hope they don't have to:)
cheers
Edit - as of this minute, I can access Gmail again. I've changed nothing - it's just working.

Regardless, I will no longer be dependent on it for critical email.

Try this:

I've been using it for a few days and i'm starting to like it more than thunderbird. Its a tiny program for what it does.

I went through a rather exhaustive troubleshooting process which included most suggested solutions from vaious GMail problem forums and yes, it did include resetting the router. Along with several different browsers, on several different machines some of which had never accessed gmail before, etc.
I'm not asking for help resolving the problem, in fact, at the moment there is no problem

- Gmail is working again. It just started working again, I did nothing new. It wasn't working at 11AM. It's working at 3PM. I changed nothing, didn't even reboot.
Recommendations for good email clients are nice. I've used outlook and express, thunderbird, foxmail and calypso. Currently foxmail seems to meet my needs, but if there's something really better, I'd probably give it a try.
Thanks again to everyone for their help. I'm not slamming GMail. It's just that based on my experience and what I learned in researching it, GMail is no longer for me.
cheers

I bought inscribe because i need to setup up mutiple accounts and filters.

It's pretty cool, no install, can run from a flash drive, all mail in one db file, etc..
