Im in serious graphics troubles. Yesterday, i suddently wanted to play GTA San andreas, but when i started it, it was all white boxes like no textures and all models were like a box
Okay. First i close the game (remembering the menu positions).. I fired up blender; it worked. I fired up Serious Sam wich runs an opengl setting; Worked!
I fired up Generals Zero Hour, directx, and it looked like gta san andreas!
Ok. DXdiag tells nothing is wrong. Even the samples it can play, the rotating box works just fine.
DirectX websetup tells i already has the newest dx. The full redist package doesnt do anything either.
I have reinstalled the latest drivers for my graphics card, that didnt help..
I dont know what have happened since i played it last time. Yesterday i installed a new cpu cooler (had to remove motherboard to get an support-plate in place) and a new DVD burner. However i dont see how that will make direcx f*ck up.. Help me, please

Install some older drivers for you graphics card. I installed the newest one for mine and suddenly no more hardware accelleration. I reinstalled the old ones and everything worked as usual again.

Thanks for the suggestion Trond, ill try to get some old drivers later and see if it works!
meanwhile, i have tried to unplug unneeded devices to see if it was the power supply as well as re-inserting the gcard.

If it works in GL but not in DX its definitly a windows/dx problem. No two ways about it.
I'd reinstall DirectX. Problem is that DX likes to claim everything is fine when its not and doesnt reinstall. SO download the prepackaged DX exe and extract it with winRAR, find the dxnt.ini, right click it and click install, this forces it to actually reinstall all the files and settings.

drac: I try to extract everything, but it seems like it doesnt react when i click install. Just a quick blink :/

perhaps if you do a system restore (XP)?

I still laugh at the "tests" it performs... Since no ps nor fs tests are done... In fact a rotating cube is as good as a blank screen when it comes to testing if DX can "render"....
One simple thing you can do first of all.. download RivaTuner, go to the DX options and the shaders tab, see what you find as current setup. It's just a guess I'm having.
Because GTASA does use shaders and the fact that you're seeing all white means they cant be compiled for some reason.
And, one of those reasons might be that they are disabled for . some other reason .
But it's strange first of all, that it happend all of a sudden. (Or you did update any drivers / changed settings somewhere / played with the reg?)

Hm... Maybe it was a different .ini. I dont remember which I had to use to get it to reinstall. Just try some that sound good =P

dagcrack, i found rivatuner but didnt find the dx options there :/
But it sounds possible. I have lately updated my drivers, however i dont remember that i played some games after or not..
jack: I do too much on my computer, and i cant afford to run a system restore. Besides it slows the system, and is a good place for vira, so i turned it off.
drac: perhaps i should search my whole system for .ini files and make an autoit script install them all??

I still bet on using older drivers.

What's your graphic board?
Does it support DX9 natively ?
Does it support Pixel Shaders and Vertex Shaders?
If all above are yes, then it's a game bug
--EDIT--
I dont know what have happened since i played it last time. Yesterday i installed a new cpu cooler (had to remove motherboard to get an support-plate in place) and a new DVD burner. However i dont see how that will make direcx f*ck up.. Help me, please
Dammit, only read this later...
Just open up your PC again, remove and install the graphics card again, it's a bad electrical contact between the AGP slot and the board... That's why hardware accelaration is gone...
or
Kick the case around till it get back working

*laughs* the AGP slot / bridge is not at fault, you are... or, your PC software is. But yes, I like PCIE though. Gimme SLI baby!. But this is no discussion here..
Anyway: His hardware is not at fault, its a software issue and I can bet you a six pack.
About how to find the DX settings... Theres 2 groups in the program, the one at the bottom is "Driver Settings" click on the button after "Customize" text, now click on the DX logo. It's something I would do if I didnt had enough time to check it on the registry, because after all RivaTuner is a "registry shell" for the gfx card drivers. And its useful since its for both ATI and NV.
