Where's the GeoControl gallery??? All the ones I saw were for other applications.

it is a terrain generator, not a render engine.
That means, all the terrains in the gallery are created with GeoControl and rendered in different apllications.

This may be a stupid question but can these terrains be used in games? For example, can they be exported so that they can be used by Ogre 3d graphics engine?

no stupid question. GeoControl exports in obj format with additional Normal Map, for enhanced details.
So, yes, it can be used for games.

I can't tell you much about your program as I can't stand your website. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN WINDOWS IN FULL SCREEN WITHOUT AN OPTION TO CLOSE IT!

I might come back to check it out again but I have to kill IE to get rid of your window. :?

Impressive!

Are these generated maps artificial, or are they digital representations of real areas (perhaps based on DEM3/DEM1 elevation data) ?

at time artificial. There will be a plugin by Digital Canvas Guilde in version 2.

Would that allow me to pre-process DEM3 elevation data and export the resulting terrains so that they can be used by other apps?

exact that!
But even more: You can erode it, so you can view it, as it will look like in 10000 years. Or flat a mountain, which is causing ugly shadows in your animation, still or game. Or you need a smaller hill for a more convincing foreground and a better POV.

PS You have not to wait until the plugin. There is a bunch of converters, many for free, which convert to ter or raw formats, which GeoControl can import.
