Is it only me that thinks openoffice has overgone ms office since 2.0?
I just realised today that i have been using openoffice since 2.0 and NEVER EVER thought of getting back to ms office?

OO rulezzz..... I think next releases will be even better than MSO will ever be!

1/3 of the size too and with all those extra goodies like PDF and Flash saving

Exactly! Smaller size, extra goodies. Also the database functionality and all that has gotten into it.. I only miss Publisher functionality..

Yep I never thought about installing office again ever, on any customer's PC nor on mines ! It's really all you need and more.

i like the idea behind openoffice i respect the hard work on this project! i have tried to use it about 1 year ago... I think the main problem on OpenOffice is that people will have a complete new structure of Menus and instead as it is in MS Office products!

I had some problems with exchanging MS Office and OpenOffice Products (even when the documents were very complex with images and a lot of formating)

I dont like to learn "how to work" with OpenOffice, as long as its not nearly the same handling as MS Office and as long 99,9 % of the known companies are using MS Office and not OpenOffice!

I know only one small company using OpenOffice because of licensing problems (money) ... but about two weeks ago the boss of this company talked with me and he will now install and use a "hidden" copy on each company PC due fact of compatibility and his important view is, taht most people know how to use the Standard Office products - instead try to learn how OpenOffice works...

i dont belive smart people will have trouble doing that. I simply installed openoffice on all the pc's at home, and all the family members quickly learned it. Its simple, just a simple as office if you arent dumb
of course sometimes they have a small question, but nothing major. ITS EVEN MORE LOGICAL BUILT UP THAN MS OFFICE!

Same kind of problems here when I tried. My docs are jammed full of images, graphs and embedded equations and had all sorts of problems when trying to convert.

I would definitely use it if cost was an issue and had to install an office suite on a network etc.

cost is NO issue here... but i still prefer openoffice.. i even have a legal copy of office XP around here (not 2003 but whatever)

For all small companies, cost is an issue and i bet most of them which are aware of it just use it. It needs a quite good PC though as it's much more memory hungry and slow than MS Office. But it works everywhere, which is a must (having it on a Mac is cool).

Well, 1.x was VERY slow. Since 2.x it has been increased signifficantly!
But its true that it requires a bit more power than MS Office.

Years ago, even MS said that most Office users only use 10% of what's in Office (confessing to bloatware? or just acknowledging its complexity?).

Anyway, cost is always an issue. I just installed NeoOffice (OO for Mac) on my office landlord's Mac because he didn't want to shell out $500 for MS Office. And he's worth over $10million. I guess the moral of the story is, if you want to be rich, don't buy MS Office.

For me, the PDF print button is my most often used feature. For some reason, MS hasn't figured this one out yet.

@Num3: Love the new IO Software tag.

I'll only use OpenOffice when it has Calendar and E-Mail functionality like MS Office.
Until then, what's the point? Whoever saw a real office without a calender? :roll:

OpenOffice is great, I mainly use Linux nowadays so MS Office is not realy an option. But I used Office (Word) for my work and it was a nightmare to use. Maybe it has improved I used '97 profesional', but I'm realy glad not to need to use it anymore. I do often see and hear people complaining about it, but of course they can't imagine using anything else, after all MS Office is the best, and if gives one all sorts of headaches; imagine using some awful 'free' aficionado software.

It is true that OO doesn't always read well complex word documents, but if I get one of those I just refuse it and ask for a PDF.

MS Office does create PDF, but you need to buy Adobe Acrobat (not cheap).

I like OpenOffice as well. Just wish they would create a publisher, would come in very useful.

I owned an old version of publisher (publisher 97) and the cd has since died. I was always using that instead of a word processor to do work. That was one of the ms apps I used the most.
