I am blown away :)

one of the best desktops i have ever seen, if only linux had the following windows as :cry:

Novel XGL really is a step in the right direction :wink:

No Audio I just Checked the XGL demo again :(

So when Linux has a heavily effect driven desktop with some 3D elements it's sexy - but when Windows does it's "system bloat"....Hmmm....

(I'm not directly talking about anyone here, just on general Vista comments I've read).

Its also much more lightweight than Windows aeropoo.

A quick comparison: Similarly loaded system with some apps running in Linux with XGL: 190mb ram. Vista Beta: 400mb

Also note that XGL runs OpenGL and doesn't have to initialize an entire environment (sound, net, etc) like DirectX does because OpenGL is graphics only. Plus OpenGL has always been faster (Why do you think every workstation in professional engineering runs an OpenGL card?)

Wait and see I might install XGL on Dapper Drake as soon as the flights become more stable, another good thing is that on Linux you aren't los when your windowing system stops working you have still more than enough tools to get it working again and if you don't care you can just work from the commandline from then on
