Traveling to London? - Need Help

i am, supposedly headed to London on july 1st for The Physiology Society conference, but airfares are RIDICULOUS. $1000-1200 for one ticket? that is unbelievable.
any of you overseas people, can you reccomend a good way to find REASONABLE tickets from Florida to any of London's airports. do any of you know travel agents or places to find good freas? and how about finding reasonable hotels too. the prices are just insane lately. any help is appreciated.

Only HOSTELS are reaonable in England(london) unless your far away from London.
Oxford region is also expensive

Wow!
Really expensive!
I can buy i ticket here in portugal Lisbon - New York for 400€ that's about 550 bucks!
Eheheh on the other hand a ticket from Lisbon to London is 29€ + Airport Taxes

you may consider flying via other cities, which is often a lot cheaper, i've been traveling nl-us via denmark (sas) frankfurt (lufthansa) and ba (london)
if you have a good travelling agency they might set you up with 'overlapping' flights, ie.
flight one: 1. from eu to us, 2. from us to eu
flight two: 3. from eu to us, 4. from us to eu
and then you would only use section 2 and 3, such combo's are sometimes cheaper than taking a regular ticket (i fly a bit in europe, and some trips to italy i end up with three return tickets, of which i only use two flights, as that is cheaper, insane but true)

From germany I used RyanAir. 2 Tickes (inc. Backticket) for 70 Euros.
That was VERY cheap!

I used to do that to, before 9/11. You cannot do this now in the US, if you are not on the first leg, they cancel the remaining trip.
@locomotion, I think you are flat out of luck, due to the date being at the height of tourist season. It would be cheaper if the moved the dates to December, when the weather is REALLY nice in London.
I checked out other routes for you, even the hyper-popular London-Orlando, but on that date its still a grand.

just wanted to say a return ticket is always cheaper then a single, the reason for this is that they need to make the money up...
That was with northwest airlines - dont know about now...
this is going back to the year 2000 when i was going to live in the U.S.A

Localmotion34, Accomodation costs in London are just horrendous at the best of times!!

From having stayed there myself, it is not exactly 5 star accomodation, but still beats backpacker hostels & is affordable so far as affordable in London goes...
tip: If your game & talk very nicely to the receptionists, they will sometimes share you with a stranger at this place to help save you a few $.. ( Well, at least they used to. )
