Ok, I've ripped some textures and a mesh out of X3 Reunion from EGOSOFT, and brought it to live with PureBasic and OpenGL / GLSlang. :D

It runs with several hundred FPS on my GeForce 7800 GT.

Looks very nice. 8)

I'm afraid not. :(

I think it won't be a good idea to post their textures and mesh. And without you won't see anything.

At the moment this is just a part of my test environment for my graphics engine. Besides turning that ship with the mouse, there is nothing else you could do anyway.

The model uses diffuse-, light-, specular- and a normalmap. I've seen a version of the earth somewhere with those kind of textures, that should be free to post. But I have no webspace to Upload.

I'll try to get something going, but first I will sleep a little bit.

EDIT:
Can't find any nice and free models that are usable.
They need to have a single material over the whole body.

I think I will just convert some more models and write a small space sim.

EDIT2:

Two more pictures:

Would be interesting to get this kind of quality from the OGRE implementation of pb.

I'm sure its possible but not until fred released the LGPL source for the pb lib.

What mesh format is this in? And how did you load it ?

@dracflamloc

If you can use shaders with OGRE, it should be possible.

@Nik

There are some threads @EGOSOFT, where it is described how to unpack, convert and load them into 3dsmax.
From there I exportet them as .ASE, because I have already coded a loader for that format.
But writing a loader for there native format should be very easy too.

You should check out these threads for more information and tools:

X3 ModManager

X2BC

DBOX2

EDIT:

I'm trying to design my own spaceship now. But it's so damn ugly.

heh Friend of mine made them ... =)

In case you wondered and you need some Professional Artists for a Project:

Tobias Richter
http://www.thelightworks.com/

Some might recall him from good old Amiga Scene...

ps. Looks GREAT!
am yet still trying to fiddle around on my scene-manager for ogre ( it will prolly still take some time til i get that thing as far as id liek to have it ).

Sometime theese weeks am gonna look into shaders.. but am loaded with work atm :(

Thalius

Wow, yes, I think I remember him. I'm on my knees right now. He must be a genius.

And yes, I would like to have a Professional Artist... and someone who pays him.

I've startet with shaders less than a week ago. It's much easier than I thought.

Have fun.

Oh yeah!
Tobias Richter is legendary!

He did at least one project with Bjørn Lynne (legendary in music),
on the Amiga, a 3D animation by Tobias with music by Bjørn.
I think it was a space battle or something.

Tobias has worked with Bjørn on some other stuff too,
including graphics for a music vid for one of Bjørn's song.
