Hi,

I've just installed the latest PureBasic Mac build onto my new Intel iMac. When I come to compile, I get a message;

PureBasic - Error

Error: Assembler

ommand not found

...

and yes, the 'c' is missing.

I'm a newbie to all this, so any advice where to start would be great...

Well since it is a different hardware from the powerpc (I think thats what the mac used to use) the assembly instructions are different. So I think Fred will have to make another version of PB for the Intel Mac. I might be wrong but I think that would be the reason it is not working and giving that error.

Yes, I realise its different basic hardware, however, rosetta, the powerpc emulator, functions very well, and I'm hopeing that functionality will allow me to use PureBasic... perhaps its simply missing paths or something... that's what I'm hopeing anyhow... The IDE etc all works fine... its just compilation that's broken...

What code are you trying to compile ?

Did you install all the apple developper tool ? I hope they don't have changed too much for the intel mac..

Yes you must install the XCode tools for PB to work

I've installed the Xcode tools, sorry its a new mac and I thought they were preinstalled... anyhow, now I'm getting all sorts of processor type compilation errors, so I'm guessing this is a non starter... back to the PC...

Lol, does this mean that Fred will have to support 2 different Mac versions?

I don't have an intel mac for now, i'm waiting for a cheap one (mac mini).

Fred, I own a mini (ppc, not intel) and don't think they are "cheap", ie, low cost. Best go for a notebook (or one of those built-in LCD thingies) if you can afford it... unless you eventualy want to convert it into a media center at a later date Problem with the mini is that when you add costs for extras you may as well go the whole way!

What about Universal Binaries?
The best way would be, if Purebasic Mac would provide universal binaries, so that they would be compatible to PowerPC G4/G5 and Intel, as well as Fred would need to support one version for Mac only.

Fred, would this be possible? - The XCode 2.0 Developper Tools support Universal Binaries already.

They tweaked their C compiler to do all this 'easy' for C developpers, but universals binary isn't easy to support for third part development tools. There is only 3 peoples actually using PB OS X, and they are on OS X PPC, so don't expect us to rush on the OS X intel side.

It'll take me a few months to get one with the Intel Chip, but if by then
you need the help on this, I'd be more than happy to help out.

does PB work on these machines?

Of course, since months we're using iMac and can't use PB.
If it's a way to say REALbasic is a better choice, you can refund us !
Stop speaking about MAC OS if you don't support it.
I know you did an excellent job, but without iMac, the only way is to change for another language... Will PB survive ?
