If you had spyWare Doctor installed that would not have happened.

Again its not my computer.
I always make sure to have such stuff as antivirus, antispyware, the latest windows updates etc..
Oh! And i ALWAYS use firefox. Im not stupid

After i made my little brother use firefox too, no spyware there neither
So its just stupid people who browse BAD pages with internet explorer that gets spyware.. Imho, all the people who dont use firefox should not use a computer

Well, oddly enough only 30% of spyware comes through your browser.
The rest comes from stuff that you have downloaded and installed.
Apps that you *think* are free, etc..

Exactly! And firefox that does not have activex support, and does not automatically install various things helps a lot.
In my case i doubt i get much spyware from apps. I dont install weird things, only good commercial or shareware apps, and very known freeware. Opensource is among my favorite too!
Actually i think its much more than 30% that comes through the browser. Anyway i still perform a check once in a while on all the computers, and it finds nothing except a few cookies.

I use Firefox, Avast and Kerio Personal Firewall. Occasionally I'll run a spyware
check with Spybot S&D, but nothing is EVER found. Avast is extremely good at
detecting spyware too -- I did download a "waterfall screensaver" once, and
I fully expected it to have spyware, and yep, Avast warned me before I could
install it. Great set of apps, those three -- and all 100% free too.

Firefox, well its the closest you come to god!
I currently uses norton AV where the newest version has a built in not-very-resource-taking-firewall (NOT personal internet security!).
My previous setup was also Avast! home edition and Kerio personal firewall, and both are remarkable good tools.
Btw when talking system tools, may i recommend CCleaner? The regclean tool works great, as well as the file cleaner.

There's a program called
Hitman Pro that's written in AutoIT, that downloads / updates then runs all the free spyware programs automatically one after another, and you can configure it to shut down when it finishes.
http://www.hitmanpro.nl/
The site's in Dutch, but click download, then you can install it in English.

theFool,
I am dutch and therefore can read the site in dutch. So do not be alarmed that Hitman Pro instals not only hitman pro but all kinds of other software!!
Hitman is just a SHELL around different other programs!! It is good, but leans on other software to do its functions!!
Cheers!!
