Sure do, it was one of my favorite apps on the Amiga.

I'll check it out then, for old times' sake, but I doubt I'll need it -- I've got
my own file management app that I wrote for myself in PureBasic.

I remember it, and a friend says me every time to test it, but i don't find the sense of it in windows, so i haven tested it yet.
But i still use it the Amiga version.

It's a really good app, couldn't imagine being without it. Leo Davidson has done a great tutorial for it.

That's what I thought too. I used it all the time with the Amiga, and then
when I switched to the PC I never had a need to use a "file manager" as
such. (I know I said above that I wrote my own file management app,
but it's nothing like DirOpus or TotalCommander, it's just a little tool I use
to do little things to pre-specified folders. I've never had the need under
Windows for 2 x open filelists and all that sort of jazz).

It's in a league of it's own. An entire toolkit.

problem is, you can spend so much time learning all it's features and how to make special configurations, that you have no time left to progra.

The tutorial is great, but it really only covers the basics. They have a pretty decent/helpful forum also.

But seriously, once you start using and and "feel the power", you'll be hard pressed to do without.

To me, total commander is THE god.. I know the author too
So let's not compare between old amiga applications before, and windows now ¬¬

In my opinion total commander is even more flexible if you know how to deal with it, if you meant flexibility as for plugins, it's the same thing!. One of the programs that runs most time on my systems is always total commander, then goes services, etc.

Got to agree with PB, useless in windows.. But total commander is not useless at all. I can't work with windows' explorer.. its really useless!!.

When I get PCs to fix I often have to install a freebie file management application because almost no normal users has them, to me, its easier and faster to work with this applications to access files, etc. than using windows explorer.. which is pretty slow on everything! (let's not talk about the search on windows.. pfff).

for once, i agree with dagcrack total commander is so nice, can't live without it... been using it since version 3.02 or so (hmm... may have been 3.52, just checked my install folder)

why tc above file explorer?

- multiple queued copy sessions
- all sorts of packers build in
- fast
- nice configurable button bar
- history
- shortcuts to paths
- color coding
- and more...

i wonder if there is something that directory opus does that tc does not, perhaps file viewing?

The windows version of directory opus is more like a windows enhancement. Once you start using it you really can't do without it.

still no one told me WHY

You need to try it, from the screenshots of total commander it looks like the windows version of directory opus is a slightly different type of product (although the Amiga version was virually the same as total commander).
