I just installed Ubuntulinux 5.10 now, and I want to install PureBasic.
I downloaded the debian package, but I'm not shure how to install it.
I tried with:

Code: Select all

sh dpkg -r /home/joakim/Desktop/purebasic.deb
/usr/bin/dpkg: /usr/bin/dpkg: cannot execute binary file
And, how can I acces my NFTS drive? Only root is allowed...

I didn't have any luck with the .deb file on my Ubuntu.

The tar file worked fine however. After you download it to your home directory, right-click and choose "Extract here". It will create a new folder containing the files. Inside there is a readme file which will guide you the rest of the way step-by-step, its real clear and easy.

Sorry I cant give more info right now, I am not at my Ubuntu box.

BTW, to install a .deb package, the syntax is:

dpkg -i <package.deb>

do a forum search for Beach's PureWinLin and he gives instructions on how to map to a NTFS drive.

Also, its "su dpkg -i pb.deb"

Not sh.

I still got error when I tried, however it did manage to setup everything except for putting some files in /usr/share/purebasic, so I just untarr'ed the file to that directory and it worked fine. All the environment variables had been setup.

Thank you guys :)
I'll try again.

EDIT:
I extracted PureBasic in my home folder,
and made a file named purebasic.sh and added this:

Code: Select all

export PUREBASIC_HOME=~/purebasic
export PATH=$PUREBASIC_HOME/compilers:$PATH
purebasic
I now use that file to start PureBasic.

But when I try to compile anything I get this error "Error: Linker nd not found" :(

EDIT2:
After Ubuntu crashed 5 times I got crasy and uninstalled the kernel...
I'm now going to try Fedora Core 4 :)

I'm now on Fedora Core 4 and i'm having problems...
Any ideas?

Code: Select all

export PUREBASIC_HOME=~/purebasic
export PATH=$PUREBASIC_HOME/compilers:$PATH
purebasic
purebasic: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
EDIT:
yum install libstdc++ libstdc++-devel compat-libstdc++-296 compat-libstdc++-33
Now it works! :D
But I still have to test some examples...

EDIT2:
Testet window.pb and got a error message to big for my screen, I cant find the close button...
I think I need the gtk1-devel, but I cant find it...

You will need glib-devel, gtk-devel, gtk2-devel (if you use the gtk2 subsystem), sdl, some other stuff. its in the readme

I used yum to install:
glib-devel
gtk2-devel
sdl-devel
gcc

But yum can't find gtk-devel :(
I don't know what to search for.

EDIT
:D:D:D:D
I installed gtk+-devel and it works now!

EDIT2:
This is all I have installed with yum to make PureBasic work on Fedora Core 4:
gcc
gtk+-devel
gtk2-devel
glib2-devel
SDL-devel
libstdc++ libstdc++-devel compat-libstdc++-296 compat-libstdc++-33

So to do it all in one just type:
su
yum install gcc gtk+-devel gtk2-devel glib2-devel SDL-devel libstdc++ libstdc++-devel compat-libstdc++-296 compat-libstdc++-33

EDIT3
Hahaha, i'm crasy...
I'm now using SimplyMEPIS 3.3.2 which is the best linux distrubution I ever tried.
And PB works like a charm :)
