Which are your programming customs ?

My programming customs are mostly drink lots of coffee, programm at night when possible, even eat chocolate (helps me for not falling asleep when coffee isnt doing the job, both are good! although I recommend you to kill those extra kalories with some gym during the day ).

Now that I told you my customs, need to know yours.
Lets see who has the fanciest ones. or perhaps, who doesnt have one?, any?. Do you wear anything special while you programm? (astronaut suit? YMCA uniform?, lítl red ráyding hud clothing?) ok perhaps that'd be too gay and if you wear anything of that, you shouldnt tell it. (or prepare to get banned!!).



One thing is clear... I don't drink while I programm, 0 alcohol. (else I spend 2 hours writting the title of the source but feels like I've written a whole operative system!).



(I knew of a guy who loved to use underwear and nothing else while programming... I wonder if he ever got a job at any company - Perhaps Microsoft?)

Usually:
.. Program through the night.
.. Wear whatever I'm wearing when I sit down to code.
- - - No uniforms for me.
.. Overestimate me (or underestimate what I've taken on)
- - - Wish I had underestimated me and overestimated the task.


Always:
.. Coffee Coffee Coffee.
.. Feel good when a breakthrough happens.
.. Feel frustrated until the breakthrough happens.
.. Be suprised when I realise it is dawn.
.. Promise myself to get to bed earlier next time.


Never:
.. Drink alchohol
- - - Have done that but then rewrites needed the next day!
.. Expect that I'll be there as long as I am.


Sometimes:
.. Use it for an escape:
- - - The "Don't bother me I'm busy being a genius" look.
.. Forget my surroundings and do antisocial things
- - - like lift a cheek let off a ripper.
.. Wander around puzzling about a solution/method
- - - and discuss it, sotto voice, with myself.
- - - And wonder how I ended up in the laundry/garden/other office.

Lol.. I dont go out much I've got to the point where I believe its a waste of time to go out to do ANYTHING and instead I prefer to use that time to programm... (and thats part of my work so technically im working all that time, technically). Believe me or not girls doesnt like this.. one left me because of my work. I had to choose between she or my jobs.. you guess what I picked!.

Things i usually do while coding:

• Drink Beer
• Listen To Thrash Metal, Full Blast On WinAMP (ChroniX Radio)
• Sit There In Only My Boxer Shorts

I'm the same. My wife and I are not big social animals and are happiest at
home in each other's company (even if that means her watching movies on
DVD on our home theatre while I'm coding at the desk).

I have friends who go out every night and spend like $100 or more each
time... obviously they have too much money. Then they tell me I'm such
a snob and antisocial... the bastards. All they do is drink and smoke and
think that's having a good time and good life. They can keep it.

Habits:

- Pack of smokes
- The odd beer or glass of wine
- Winamp running my 3gb of music
- Google

- In the summer i go for the sexy nerd shorts look
- At winter to the snown man with frozen fingers

- Usually i code in the weekends, during the week i like spending time with my wife and watch some TV / DVD

Yes I used to go to pubs and spend lots of money on beer.. pool.. (not on girls, not on girls.. Not needed) but its just something I don't like. And they see me like the weirdo for that!, But then, when you accomplish one of your projects, they see you with a big envy face and you enjoy it soo goood. Makes you want to spin the whiskey glass while they clean your garden! - No mister, you'll clean my dog's poo AS WELL!.

I program when I can. With four of the five kids out of the house I have a lot more free time now, but I still enjoy family time every day and I need to get a couple of hours of reading in every day and I rarely do any work on the weekends.

When programming, I often listen to music. Usually instrumental stuff, Native American, New Age, Celtic, Jazz, Classical. When not listening to music, I often have audiobooks playing, or listen to old-time radio shows or listen to sermon tapes.

I don't drink alcohol or coffee. Generally, I just drink water, but sometimes I have some caffeine free soda while I am working.

We never go out in the evening, but we do take my mother out to lunch several times a week. But other than that, and errands, I am usually at home.

Nothing really special for me: almost always program at evening/night, wear whatever I'm wearing (you guys and your coding outfits, pfff), always listening to music (classic rock works wonders), and rarely have food or drinks.

Right now jeans tshirt and true, no shoes just socks - you got to be careful with those carpets!...

Well you didnt want to know that but it was just for showing you that we dont use any coding outfits.. just our underwear (ok its a coding outfit.. happy now?)

I think the comfier the better.. be naked if it makes you programm better- thats good (well, not good for the one that happens to enter in the room - "Honey its not what you think it is - I can explain you why im naked in front of the PC") - and your eyes are all red ... she'll think you're on drugs and you'll end locked up - so be careful, comfiness up to a certain point!.

Some others prefers the sado-coding way.. thats like, you sit on a nails chair while your partner slaps you with a wet wip (that has an old 386 processor on its end) - Its not as comfy (at least to me) but you sure get to finish those damn programs in time (it also kills bugs, heck if it hurts..)!

Then the lazy-coder way, thats when you sit and you look at your code, the whole thing up and down about 2 times.. and you dont know what to add nor fix because you didnt comment your extense routines last night (and you went to sleep all drunk)- so you grab a beer and start programming the software all over again. (of course its an endless loop - be careful with those).

And finally, the nerd way. You usualy put your calculator (Texas Instruments - preferably) at the side of your keyboard, and use it while you debug the program, just to see that the program is resting those numbers as it should! - But apart from that, you also put your whole set of pencils and pens on your pocket (because they look ace and they also help you scratch those damn ears when the finger wont reach it!) and if that wasnt enough - you also print your program's sourcecode when you have to take a submarine out (that is, sit on the throne) - just to review it and perhaps laugh loud from time to time because of the variable names you used.

well my parsiennes are rolled down, i drink COCA Cola and chokolate milk.
I listen to music, mostly techno or queen
or whatever i find interesting that day.

Clothes, what i wear. Well if i have a lot of warm things on i probably take it off and choose a t-shirt..

Boxershorts? No i dunno when the hell one of my friends come running surprising me!

however i AM sitting in boxer's right now its 23:25 here and i have just been in bath that is the reason...


Well neither what i do, you better obey me and do what i say, as i am the best... what do i say? Drink COLD chokolate milk or cofee. Might even coke! Or beer. only things that will work for you.
As eating, fruit and bread is always nice.

remember, drink chokolate milk. if you get tired of programming, do some workout [NO dagcrack, not that way of working out, i mean like PUSHUPS or weightlifting.], or go down to the kitchen and grap more food and drinks. Why do working out? Because its funny. And you get bigger and then you can beat everyone on your way up to the top!

just thought you should know. And remember: always obey me, and do whatever i say!


like now: DO 40 pushups! NO KNEES ON THE FLOOR. Or if i say GET SOME COKE [not the drug, the drink!], or CHOKOLATE MILK!
Even if i say JUMP OUT OF THE WINDOW FROM A VERY HEIGH BUILDING you would have better of doing it.
