Tools needed to build 3D game?

Hi,

I am hoping for some help. I know nix about 3D engines but am embarking on a small project where I must either:

1: Write a small engine based on RayCasting. This I can do and the result would be adequate.
..or ..
2: Learn PureBasic's 3D commands. Which would, I think, give a much better end result.

One (among many) of the things that I don't know how to do is create the various objects. I don't even know where to start looking.

Perhaps someone could help me with a list of tools/software needed to create the data/objects needed for to use the various libraries, eg, Entities, meshes, etc, etc.

Also some tutorials for absolute newbs who are also slow to comprehend. :)

Thanks!

Blender and MilkShape are good for creation/learning. NeHe's site is good and googling will show you many articles on 3D stuff. (sorry don't have all the links on this machine)

Thanks!

@dmoc.

Downloaded Blender3D and got blown away by the screen. This is the easy one? :shock: Downloading MilkShape now.

@Fred

You mention 3DS and Maya. Not actually knowing what these are :? (but assuming they're file types) this brings up the question of formats, etc. What should I look for or be wary of here?

Thanks again!

PS: I have already downloaded a heap of apps over the last few days, anything that claimed to be a 3D engine/creator/editor. Things like Panda3D, Terra3D, Gmax3D, TV3D etc al. Haven't looked at any of them yet. Some are probably nothing to do with what I want.

lol, RayCasting is starting to look really good. You deal with cells or cubes and some formulas! You don't need a commercial pilot's licence to create the images!

blender is [much!] more powerfull however its hard to learn.. but its free!
however milkshape is easy to use and i would say its powerfull enough for smaller and bigger games.

:lol: haha

@num3: well if you use a little time to learn blender it is pretty easy! but it requires some time though.

dare2, may i recommend you to play simpler games? Try starting it like this: press startbutton, press Shutdown computer, press the OK button. Then a nice game with cool graphics will come up! : :twisted:
