How many people here are converts from GameMaker?

If you are, what was your main motivation for shifting to PB?
I can give my answer: Execution speed (since GameMaker isn't a true compiled language), execution size (because you have to include a runner it's "compiled programs" are huge), and PB's effortless integration with Windows API and GUI.
I have no ulterior motive for this, it's just funny how many people I've seen on here so far mentioning that they used to use GameMaker is all. I still think its a decent stepping stone for beginner programmers who want to make games.

I used gm for quite a while and found it useful as a learning tool if nothing else. I always thought it a bit too long winded though for my tastes. If you have time to spare but no inclination to learn a dedicated language, it's capable of producing some reasonably good, simple games.
I switched to PB because I've always loved BASIC as a language and was astounded by the features and performance for the price compared to many other flavours of BASIC. I tried over a dozen other versions before buying PB and am so glad I did. It's the best.
I also used to mess around with Zillions of Games too. It has a very easy scripting language to use to create new games, but the development seems to have dropped off over the past couple of years.
My all time fave was AMOS on my trusty old Amiga. It was a wonderful language and incredibly easy to learn. Oh, the good old days

Hehehe I was on the other side of the force - I used to program in STOS on an Atari STFM.

Down, you spawn of evil!!!! AtariST! I would never have allowed one of those through the door sir.
Actually, I now have a very nice ST emulator with thousands of proggies to run with it. Nice. I preferred the Amiga for the games, but the ST was fantastic for music. I remember the Pet Shop Boys on Top of the Pops using one

I started to program in Game Maker, but it was to slow and the exe's was to big.
After that I tried C++, C#, DarkBasic, BlitzBasic, LibertyBasic and EthosBasic.
And then I found PureBasic, and I just fell in love...

Of course we are all in love with PureBasic, if not, we wouldnt be here in first place.

- Although I have to say that many PB functions are quite slow (but im sure they'll be optimized by next releases). Anyway so far many actual functions beats VisualBasic's on some benchs...
Anyway doesn't matter, PB is THE language to me! (Cpp is nice, but I preffer PB believe me or not, although sometimes I wish I was programming "this" in C++ just because of some lacks in PB)
