Ranking System

If possible:
Please change the ranking system on this forum. At the moment it is post count that gives a user "ranking credibility", which is very misleading.
So,
if possible, can this be changed.
Most of us are members. Full stop.
Some few of us are proficient.
A tiny handful are true experts in one or more areas.
And a few are official, eg, moderators or the PB team, etc.
Could the rankings reflect that?
And because it is a subjective judgement, keep it so that most of us are members and only obvious stand-out contributors (eg, Sparkie) get the expert status/title/icon.
Will self-perceived experts who remain as "mere" members get their noses out of joint? Perhaps, but that is up to them. They own their attitude and are either slaves to or in control of their egos.
But if that is a worry, then just have official ranks (moderators, Admin, PB team) and everyone else as a member. Anyone using these boards for a few weels quickly knows who to listen to and who to politely ignore. But anyone new is not going to be dazzled by rankings earned by spam artists (like me)

I like the idea. What the others members thinks about it ?

First of all, I want to keep my current ranking!
Ok, having said that, I saw a pretty cool ranking system on another
forum (mountainbike related

). Every user had a small voting box
right under their avatar. That way other people could rate the user's
postings, giving new members a good idea of the 'depth' of the
user's contributions.
Not that I really care.

Hm... I would like that "vote" idea if it didn't involve reloading the page. Coding such a thing is easy, but integrating it into phpBB may be more tricky. I think it's better to leave the thing as it is, but let the admins give grades, so if you bribe them enough, they give you an "expert" grade or something alike. What do you think?

@Dare2: Thank you for the "Expert" plug
I am still learning as I go here and do not consider myself an Expert PB coder. Sure I can come up with some code every now and then, but just ask me a question about Sprites, Networking, or a DataBase. This is where I would desreve a "Huh?" status.
If you could break it down to areas of expertise then it may have some validity, otherwise it could still be a little misleading.

Maybe something plain like "New user", "Enthusiast", "Addict" for most users with PB staff having their own titles and a thread to nominate individual members for custom titles (e.g. Sparkie = "WinAPI guru")?
On another board you can pay a small fee to change someone elses title - could be interesting here

Yes, that would do it!
Gives (esp new) people a way to differentiate between post-happy types like myself and people who know their stuff and people who speak with authority on boards or re PB.
Which might help to defuse negatives by post-happy types without a clue.
Aside to Sparkie.
Sorry

- No, not really

Accept your due (and stay humble too

)
PS: I want a special rank: "Spammer at Large"

A better idea would be a honourranking.
Like in PureBasic-Lounge.
A member must show his practis and the other members gives a vote for him.
Another way to get a higher rank in purebasic-lounge is, to participate on little pb-trainings and proggergames.
Also, the moderators looks for good posters and honor their by higher ranks.
Give spamposters no chance !

I second that. That's the only way to 'truly reflect' what's going on.
I still don't see why this ranking stuff seems to be a problem at all.
I mean, every forum has rankings and postcounts and never it's anything
you can rely on - I personally never understood it like this at least.

Well lets face it, a total moron could post 1500 times to be "Elite"
When really all the posts are "Duhhhhh, you suxor!"
Yes very Elite.....

Yes, i change is needed, now a moron could get Elite easy, and i dont want to say what's the next rank
I changed a little already, we will give ranks according to his contribution to PureBasic or the help users get from that person.
Just a small poll is needed to get correct names for the ranks, so its not about number of postings anymore. Input here pls.....
Users with software/game that realy stands out can request there own rank, maybe the name of there company or product.
Paul, GPI, El Choni, Karbon....and everybody i forget, just send me a PM for this.
