Probably because the offer is supposed to be valid for Visual Basic user..

PureBasic: Simple EXE size for just a blank window - 0.01MB

Size difference: RealBasic is 170 times larger than PureBasic EXE

Winner: PureBasic by a landslide

PS - The actual IDE doesn't support linux, but you can compile your program in windows to a linux executable. (Wonder if the IDE runs using wine?)

Don't forget the VB program size of over 5MB for an empty program ... have to include the runtime libraries to befare ... or .NET for over 30 MB for a blank program, hehe ...

Seriously, size doesnt matter .. or thats what some women say .. hrmm, sure ...

Anyway, The only thing I see RB have over PB is crossplatform capability (including the ability to crossplatform compile on the same OS!), and it's all-in-one IDE. It is slower then PB, and create fricken huge EXEs)

um, VB6 programs compile to about 30kb if they are blank, of course then you have to add the runtime dll which is about 2.6MB.

But I'm not comparing Vb... just Pb and Rb

However, I think the RealBasic IDE is just awful. Theres no way to just view all the source code. I'd go crazy making a program in that.

Anyways, I agree. The IDE need some major reworking from the ground up. It's almost as bad as QuickBasic ... erk!

For easier of use, PB wins hands down

Also, The peeps @ RealBasic are not bright enough to not include lame runtime in the app itself.. hrm ...

Second, thank heavens I bought PB and not RB - and I nearly went the other way.

This has cemented my belief in PB and in the people on this board. I have run tons of examples now, from the RB server and from some RB user sites. Lots of bloat, and things like screen flicker, etc, are quite bad on my system. PB and PB coders are good.

Having said that, I am still glad to have it. I agree with Kale. Better to have and not want.

Sincerely, after the PB existence, RB and VB are an almost absolute shame at least on matter of final executeables sizes and speed, and package size, installation ... (I think this last one is the reason used by those who cash to "justify" prices, hahah )
Well, nice RB has a free version.

Don't forget to look how restrictive all the licensing is.

Freely distributable for anything (except wrapping the library). Install on your computers. PureBasic brings freedom from more than just bloat.

Best tool for the job, guys. Don't waste any time being a zealot for this language or that. Just use what works best for the task in front of you. No single language or platform is "the best".

RB is pretty nice, I've seen some rather large applications written using it (mostly for Mac).

Remember that the free version is only for legal VB owners, though I see they made no attempt to verify the downloaders own VB.

Good marketing for RB, IMHO.

hmmm, it would seem that this tool isn't good for much of anything but 10 yr olds trying to learn, and even then I think that learning without a GUI designer is the best way...
