I agree with PB. PureBasic is an awesome programming language. Microsoft's dedication to VB.NET will hurt them in the long run. They are abandoning a large core of BASIC programmers. Now we need to find some way to get the word out on Pure.

Yes I agree too. The VB.Net development environment is so heavy... it takes 1 hour 30 minutes to be installed and takes 2 Gb space on your hardisk...

And you need to deploy a 30 Mb runtime on each client station. Crazy no ?

Erh.... Not exactly, M$ thought of that complain, so the latest service pack (2) includes the damn thing...
Smart way out?
Yes, most users won't even know a VB.Net app requires a runtime, unless of course you haven't updated the OS in a while....
So, in theory it is no longer is a runtime, but part of the OS itself...
Who cares about 30 more MB nowday....
Wait...
Let me think...
I CARE !!!
Gzzzz.... I want AMIGA OS3.1 back it was just 5 floppys....

For those who lived under a rock ...

VB was discontinued in 2000 (as mentioned in the article). The petition is about 5 years too late .. ah well.

I'm not posting old news -- the article (and petition) is about Microsoft ending
official standard support for Visual Basic 6 later this month (2005). Something
that makes me very glad that I found PureBasic a few years ago.

Not true. The 1.1 framework is closer to 20, and the new 2.0 framework is closer to 10 from what I understand. I can bundle the redistributable framework into a 6-7 meg exe, which isn't at all bad for all the things it gets you.
I used to have the same attitude about all M$ things, but then I started concentrating on maing money instead of being bull headed about silly stuff. I can say that .NET is a dream to code in once you let go of the hostility that seems to come with all things M$. Everything is easy, everything works (well, close enough). For bigger projects I'll never use anything else.. For the small ones there is always PB
.NET is here to stay and I wish they'd make the framework a critical update so we could stop worrying and everyone could stop bitching!

Karbon, after 1500 posts, your status is now "Guru"... Respect!
BTW: Will you eventually port K-Billing to .NET? Are you using C# or VB.NET?
