Keyhole: Satellite imagery app

This is a GREAT satellite imagery app: http://www.keyhole.com/

It lets you select most locations around the world and zoom in on them.
Mainly the USA is mapped. It's run by Google. It's not free -- it's a 7-day
trial and then you have to pay US $30/year subscription. I'm not sure if I
will pay yet... it's pretty damn good though, so I'm thinking about it.

Get the "Keyhole 2 LT" version. And you MUST be online to use it. The
first time you go to a location, the satellite imagery has to be downloaded
from the net, so it can be a tad slow on 56k modems. Broadband is best.

Here's an example screenshot of what it looks like:

Personally I'm a bit scared by things like this but this may also be of interest:

If that is available to the public just think about what the government has :-)

But 253 MB to download? And requires .NET to be installed? No thanks! :P

I posted re slimmed-down version for if you already have directx and .net. Here's the good news...
We're working on pushing a World Wind 1.2e full installer. This new installer doesn't come with DirectX or .NET, but points people to web pages to download them. Hopefully that install will be up by tomorrow, following testing, etc.

I remember when people were whining about the VB runtime libs too. *sigh*

The VB runtimes are tiny and only a few files. The .NET distribution takes
over a lot of your system, from what I've read, and changes how certain
things work. Again, I read that somewhere and haven't actually tried it.
It scared me off .NET forever. :) As a PureBasic coder, I hate using any
apps that require a runtime library to be used. This topic is the perfect
example: two apps that do the same thing, but only one (Keyhole)
doesn't require you to update your system to use it. IMO, you should
never have to install one app just to run another -- ever. :)

An update: Keyhole has just had a new set of satellite images released, which
now includes the ENTIRE GLOBE! :) All images are 2005 versions, so it's now
very up to date. I can even zoom in on my home suburb now -- woohoo! :)

The old database is still existent, for those that prefer that.
