Pure Basic Community...

I'm new to Pure Basic, I used to program in Game Maker.
Game Maker had a GREAT community with much examples/tutorials/help.
But now I want to get started making games with Pure Basic.
I have tested c++/c#/liberty basic/ethos basic/...
But I just fall in love with Pure Basic, and I want to get started in programming games, and maybe some programs...

But, the community sucks? (ok, maybe not that bad..)
But the forum should be more like the GM Forum.
And the PureBasic page should have much more examples/tutorials and other help.

Examples/tutorials/etc, should be sorted in these groups:
*Program Programming
*Game Programming
*DLL Programming

I think they should hire somebody to make "examples/tutorials/etc".
I'm not saying that they should make PureBasic more like Game Maker, all i'm saying is that the community should be more like GM's.
I'm almost going back to C#....because it's much easyer to find help there...

If I ever make a game with PureBasic, then I will share the source code so everybody can learn from it.

Edit: Some months later...
I was just a little noob when I wrote this...
The community is great and I love PureBasic!
And it's not hard to find examples or help. :D

I'm going to assume you said that due to an English-language problem.
Did you realize you just insulted everyone in this forum/community?

Maybe I sucks...

Edit:
Ok, ill do it the hard way (like always...)
Ill make a Pure Basic Game Programming Page.
Ill make some examples and tutorials and put them on the page.
Shitt! I got work to do, goodbye! :)[/b]

I'm the complete opposite. I'd cry if PB moved to mainly game creation. PB is great for applications. Non-dll dependent, fast and easy. I'd have to spend time and effort to learn something else to create applications if PB was billed as a game programming language.

Of course, different people have different uses so I'm fine if it can be developed evenly between games & apps. Or even if there was a PB Game Edition/PB App Edition or somesuch. My opinion is slanted since I'm using it purely for application development ^_^

isn't it nice?

Isn't it nice how complete PureBasic beginners come in here and tell us how we should be doing things without writing a line of code or being a part of the apparently sucky community?

Wow, I didn't know all of us were doing it wrong, wish I had known sooner. Especially all the professional PureBasic coders in here making thousands of dollars or more a year. Gee, they must all be doing it wrong too.

Joakim,

This community is different, but it most certainly does not suck.

On the whole you will find the PB community to be far more independantly minded than many of the game oriened basics out there.

The approach to learning purebasic reflects this. There are few spoon feeding tutorials, with most people learning from the examples provided with purebasic.

In the examples folder you will find many short examples that demonstrate how to use PBs features. Read them, adapt them and learn. It is a suprisingly fast way to learn.

In some ways this approach does suck, it puts many off. On the other hand, it also acts as a filter that means that that the quality of Purebasic programmers is very high.

Please persevere, because things are moving pretty quickly in the world of purebasic. 2005 promises to be very interesting.

Well you want to split the examples. If you read the FILENAME of them, it pretty much says what it shows.
Dll programming? No need of more than 1 example ;) its simple. read in the help file and you will program nice dlls after 10 minutes!
I think they should hire somebody to make "examples/tutorials/etc".
uhm no. The examples are great, the helpfile is easy to go on with.
A neat beginners tutorial would be nice. Wow i almost forgot! What about reading Blueznl's beginners guide? also some others somewhere..
If you miss examples, get the PureArcive at purearea.net
or just look around this forum...
I'm not saying that they should make PureBasic more like Game Maker, all
good, because this is a real programming language. not just a clicknpoint thingy that will generate most of the code for you. sure gamemaker has an gamescript but this is something else... GameMaker is sure fine if you are new to the game making world. a great start, but not a real language..
i'm saying is that the community should be more like GM's.
Why change a very well going community. What exactly is wrong with us.?
I know im not the best purebasic programmer around, but also im not the worst :P and i havent seen better boards. If you ask something, youll get an answer unless you cant write the question well enough. And if you do it so others cant read it, they just ask you to post it in a better way for more clearly showing the problem.

so: whats wrong with us? what do YOU think we should change?

I'm almost going back to C#....because it's much easyer to find help
Ok go back to that bloated M$ controlled .net BLOAT language ;)

Actually, I would like to see something like the code archives at blitzbasic.com. Something nice and easy to search through. Have specific categories to deal with various programming topics. unfortunately, this forum can be a real pain in the bum to trawl through.

Would be nice to perhaps have a tutorials section also.

I know when I fist looked at purebasic, it to me a few stabs in the dark to get something working as the examples with the manual aren't very well commented, and in some cases, it was very difficult to find what you were looking for at all.

in some respects, it could be cool to have something like they do over at php, and have an online manual that people can add comments and examples to if they wish.

OK, I know I probably haven't explained things to well, and before I get flamed (I am recovering from ten days of drinking here :))
I just think we could do we something to ease in the noobs, before they all feel like they are being ignored or treated like a subhuman species for asking a question. OK, this guy said the wrong thing... but sometimes, RTFM is the wrong thing to say, especially when the manual can be difficult to follow.

You shouldn't have to wait long time, before next version of the CodeArchiv is ready :D

Easy and comfortable offline browsing tool included. Anyone who will spend the effort, can already found some preview screenshots in PureArea.net / Showcase....

I posted my example here: http://purebasicftp.info/ (JLC's 2d Shooter Example v1.0)
So i did write some lines of code!
Ok ok ok, the community don't suck, but it's maybe a little small? hehe...

It may be a bit small, but at least the community is for a real coding language, and not a scripting language trying to be passed off as a coding language :P However, you can go back to scripting if you like :D
