I have been forced (kicking and screaming) to code a web application in ASP (VBscript specifically). I usually code web apps in PHP and use a editor from DZSoft which is comfortable but still not as good as JAPBE. I really like JAPBE's code complete functionality, good syntax highlighting, and the format syntax guide which pops up when inside a PB function.

Is there anything like this already out there?

I am using HTML-kit at the moment, good editor but I feel like there must be SOMETHING out there better for coding in ASP/VBscript.

I'm afraid the only one I know about is Microsoft's Visual Interdev.

Personally I think ASP is a real turkey. However if you don't mind moving up a step, have a look at ASP.NET, you can get a free development environment here. http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/

It's not as intuative as Visual Studio 2003, which is what I use, but you can do some great stuff. If you try it out and like what you see, you can get an exellent book on http://www.sitepoint.com about ASP.NET and it covers VB.NET using WebMatrix. Let me know how you get on.

Poor Guy! PHP thrashes ASP in power and speed! I'n my last employment we coded frontend for a huge DB containing thousands of multi field entries, PHP outperformed ASP easily. That is when that company switched all focus on PHP and dumped ASP there and then! I think it scares companies off using PHP because its free..., oops, sorry i mean Open Source!

I know... I mainly code most of the apps I do now in PHP - but our corporate coding standard is all Microsoft. This has never been enforced in the past so people usually code with whatever they want. My problem is that what I am doing is going to get allot of attention and I do not want to rock the boat. I already have a reputation of using open source for my apps at corporate (PHP, MySQL, Linux servers) so this will take everyone by surprise.

Thanks for all the info, I think I will just stick with HTML-Kit until this project is over. Using Visual Studio to code an active web page seems to me like using a bulldozer to get a scoop of ice-cream.

Take a look at PSPad it's not all like jaPBe but it's IMHO far better than HTML-Kit. In the Forum you can download Beta-Versions too (all very stable from my point of view).

Late response, but for ASP have you tried notepad++ editor? Based on scintilla, and comes with source so you can mod it if you want.

I have been tearing it up with PSPad though, I think that one is the cat's pajamas for VBscript/ASP pages. It has a multi-highlighter feature that separates the VBscript code and the HTML code, which makes it much easier to edit.
