Way out there: Will there be a new Amiga version for OS 4+?

Now that Amiga Inc is supposedly getting ready to release something, OS-wise, I wonder if there will be a market for a PureBasic on the new Amiga OS?
Just curious...

I think that would be a serious waste of Fred's valuable time. The Amiga, whether Amiga OS or Morph OS community is down to no more than a couple of thousand active users, as evidenced by those who've either bought new AmigaOne or Pegasus<sp> boards.
Fred would probably need to scrap a lot of the existing codebase for the Classic Amiga and rewrite it. And re-write it for which one, the Hyperion OS4 or Morph OS?
The Amiga is dead. I think taking on OS X would be more than enough work for Fred, and Amiga can now rest in peace.
If you like soap operas,
www.amiga.org and
www.amigaworld.net are the 2 main 'camps' in the neverending Amiga saga. Red camp (Hyperion's OS4), Blue camp MorphOS), both have close to 50% of the remaining Amiga market. If Fred picks the wrong one to support, then he's lost 50% of the target audience.
If he's quitting his main job in the future, then this would not only be a waste of time, but will absolutely cost him $$/Euro's out of his pocket. He can get 100X the potential programming audience from the OS X crowd alone than he can from either of the Amiga OS's.
Sorry to go on about this, but supporting a dead computer which is spread across 2 different systems and OS variants for maybe two hundred unit sales is dicey. Unless he's diehard fanatic of course.

its not actually true that a prog written for aos4 will not run in mos
i agree that amiga market is small but in the other hand
linux with its millions of users have a small base too
even if agree with you that propably getting pb up to date with other ports maybe
its just 'too much' updgrades from time to time it would be nice
(specifically bug / and maybe switching gfx/sprite/sound lib to SDL so it get AOS3/AOS4/MOS and complatibility

)
p.s. about the soap operas be sure that amiga users know the situation of amiga market
very well ..

The Amiga is dead.
Sadly, I agree!

Its like a blind old incontinent sheepdog thats had its day, it just doesn't cut it anymore. We need to take it to the barn with a double barred shotgun and blow that mother away! It would be a kindness!

Linux is a small, but increasing base!

Yeah, I agree that our beloved Amiga is on life-support and will be needing the 'paddles' soon. They just waited waaaaay too long to make a serious move (understandably, this takes $$$, which they didn't really have).
*If* an Amiga OS is released to the public, maybe someone can release a PureBasic-like basic for it.
Who knows? Look how far Linux has come along in the past 5 years alone! Maybe another open source alternative could save the Amiga in some sybolic way...

so does that mean that amiga versions will be dropped from being updated?

Well, you may have noticed that the Amiga version is at version 2.90, which is quite a while ago.
But as someone pointed out here once, the Amiga version contains pretty much all the features that the Amiga itself supports. We're lucky to have a version for us at all, really. I can't think of another basic that still sells an Amiga version....

yes but lack support of rtg/rta stuff sprite lib only works in 'classic' amigas
(no amigaone/peg can display them)
thats why i suggest sdl moving cause i believe that it will be an easy way to,
but since i am unable to do it myself...

Its unfortunate, however true and well past its bedtime.
Of course if Fred want's to support it, he certainly can, but it just seems like a lot of extra work no matter which OS version he decides to support. And frankly, the current Amiga community just doesn't seem to have anything near the number of coders that it did a decade ago.
Whats left is a weird conglomeration of people who still cherish the memories of when the Amiga kicked the crap out of the PC and Atari systems, and the wackjobs who repeatedly get ripped off, and seem to like it. I follow the soap opera on ann.lu and other sites a fair bit, and its unreal the amount of drama, lies, and fraud thats taking/taken place.
I could understand on one level where Fred might want to keep it semi-current so that he can say that PB supports 4 OS'. However most people in computers today have never heard of the Amiga computer, and those that do, might second guess settling on PB over the competition, considering the Amiga/community reputation.
Besides, no sense tempting the Amiga Curse now, is there???

Why update the Amiga version?
It will be better with a mobile telephone version of PureBasic based on the java standard.

I think there is a huge update coming up for the Amiga version. In a roadmap thread where Fred posted on awhile ago, mentioned that in PB 4, all versions will be in sync
So it is my understanding the 4.x amiga version will be the exact same as the windows version, and so on and so forth.

I don't think so, it would be pointless to support a dead OS. Main focus for Fred ATM is Windows, Linux and MacOS.

Ouch, after re-reading that I have to agree. It was the 3.91 release that was supposed to be stable for all four platforms before the big jump to 4.0. Though I thought it was reworded when the thread was fresh

ah well!
Cheers!
